PREMIERE: Dam Swindle - You [Heist]

The new era of Nu Groove continues to release exquisite house music with its latest package from Acid Jerks, maintaining the gold-standard level of production exhibited in its earliest releases. An anonymous project from two of Berlin’s hottest selectors, this four-track EP demonstrates a breadth and depth of house knowledge, as Acid Jerks take the listener on a cosmic trip. The deep grooves of ‘Chocolate Factory’ kick off the package, followed by the more melodic and emotive ‘Remote Area’ with lush strings and keys. ‘Square One’ has a raw, synth-heavy sound that verges on the ominous, before the tough low end and analogue muscle of ‘The Tribute’ gives added grit to the package.

The release opens with the titular ‘Proto Call’. A thoroughly diverse track ‘Proto Call’ melds disco percussion with elements of vintage Italian house, squelching acid and progressive all whilst chugging along with propose, a key feature of many efforts in Life And Death’s back catalog.

Vitess is back on his own label Retro Futura with a four track EP of stand out material. The French artist has been producing inspired moments into the electronic, charging emotive pieces fed through his own experience and surroundings.

And there’s plenty of it. Last year, the busy producer served up 10 tracks on his first album, setting a delicate tone spanning between ambient and the dance. This blend of musical introspection and energy led house music makes for a well rounded package that continues into the next.
