I make music that will hopefully change someone's life.

When I was a boy, I wanted to be a pro athlete, never thinking I would ever be making music. But music and the desire to create and express myself had always been there on the periphery.
I would write poetry or make songs using my grandfathers old school tape recorder. 

When I got a little older, into my teen years, I begin to think about music being a possibility for me, and had a few brief stints with creating music with friends and by myself. It wasn’t till my mom got me a guitar at the age of 17 that I began to write songs as a serious thing. I really wanted a guitar and my mom decided to buy one for me because she felt God tell her that I never asked for anything, and that she should get it for me, so she did. 

I wrote songs, joined a few bands, but never did much beyond write songs in my bedroom and share them every now and again, and always in and out of bands or doing music solo or not doing music at all. I sang one of my first songs at a few weddings, I sang at a lot of open mic nights around Ohio. I even got to do a few shows  at a friends pizza shop. 

One of the bands I was in with Roy Moore, started with us writing and performing songs at our local Steak ‘n Shake till the early hours of the next day over copious amounts of coffee. Oddly enough the managers never told us to stop, and the customers never really complained, some even liking some of our songs or becoming fans. Sadly, though I think that group could have amounted to something, we never took it beyond the few small time shows that we played in Ohio, and the music we wrote. 

Eventually I decided to move to Charlotte NC in 07’ just before the market crash. I kept on playing and writing music, as well as going out to local open mic nights when I could. I would go in spurts where I couldn’t stop writing songs, and then other spurts where I didn’t even pick up a guitar (Something I still do).

In 2013 I decided to get super serious about music, and had plans to save up some money and move to Nashville, but God had other plans, and I met my miracle of a wife. In meeting her I decided to completely give up music and give up my dreams of doing music for a living, which I did for the next three years. I would still pick up a guitar every now and then, like maybe once a year, and maybe even write a song or two, but my heart really wasn’t in it 100% and the dream to do music had died.

Then I had a moment in time, where I decided to surrender my life completely to God, and in seeking him, not only did I become a different person, the dream of music woke up in me again, but it was a different dream and I had a different heart about it. I wanted to do it for the lord. When I walk with him that desire is there, and when I don’t that desire goes away. But the truth is when God puts something in you, he does it for a reason, and it’s up to us to accept it and go bout the task of discovering. I believe God has put music in my heart and this is what I was created to be. 

That being said, God has his part and I have my part, which means, though he has given me a gift, it’s up to me to make the best of it, and I have learned that I can’t make the best of it without him in my life.
