The badabing diskos crew digs deep once more and comes up with two downtempo indie-house monsters from label regulars Vinny Villbass and Sommerfeldt.

Producer, artist, sound guru and DJ Vinny Villbass hails from Oslo with releases on Eskimo and Trunkfunk. He has also worked with experimental electronic artist Pantha Du Prince and is a versatile performer and musician. Here he works with Sommerfeldt who has previously worked under various aliases on acclaimed labels such as Paper Recordings and Full Pupp. He is an equally prominent figure of the Oslo club circuit and both of these new tracks came together while eating basement fish (fermented trout that's been cooking in a bucket of brine in a basement for two months) in a wood cabin somewhere in the Norwegian mountains during the pandemic of 2021. Opener 'Back in Time' leans backward in both rhythm and harmony and creates plenty of space for its heavy claps and hypnotic vocal cuts. This alluring and artful groove is perfect for both sunlit beaches and dark clubs alike. As always with this label, it's a track that oozes musicianship and class. The equally fresh 'Basement Fish' goes even deeper but explores harder energies as disharmonic analog synth mayhem is held together by rhythmic vocals from the ever-amazing Toshybot who was once part of late 90s supergroup Tøyen. It's a rugged groove with tripped-out synth effects designed to bring all new vibes to the dance floor. Vinny Villbass & Sommerfeldt have hooked themselves a couple of beauties for this EP. "Though his solo productions tend towards the weird, wild, and far-out, Raffaele “Whodamanny “Arcella has an incredibly well-honed pop sensibility, one that is often on full display during his energetic DJ sets and mixes. There you will find delirious collections of Italo dance magic spanning several decades, with Whodamanny cutting ecstatically between all manner of vocal oriented and neon-hued proto-house, synth pop, disco, boogie, and funk. And on the The Dance Sucker 12″, he perfectly combines his interests in futuristic sonic experimentation with the balearic euphorias of these club sets, resulting in some of the strongest and most surprising material yet to come from Periodica Records and the West Hill Studio. I say surprising for several reasons, not least of which is the presence of Arcella’s voice, which here is deliciously foregrounded…a sort of expressive croon moving through sultry serenades, summertime hooks, and sexual soul whispers. Combining 4 tracks Samba E Sabor, Lafro, Groove With You and Our Place it’s an EP with everything from Latin flare to deep jazz party disco. This is a real tour de force of dance-floor nous from a producer and selector with extremely good taste.

‘Groove With You’ is deep party disco with a tight fat horn groove and ever so cool looped up guitar licks. Breaking into a big trumpet solo it’s another feel good moment on a stellar EP. Not content with setting the groove to perfection just wait until the brilliant vocal comes in. A near perfect track!

Samosa and Hotmood together it would seem are a match made in dancefloor heaven.
