This one is my first new mix in over a year and a half; it's dedicated to what has become my favourite musical space: expansive, melodic, spacious and weighty dubwise/dubtechno music. Starting at around 112 bpm and ending at 160 over the course of almost 2 and a half hours, this is a mix I'd been meaning to put together for some time now and I'm so happy to share it now. As always, listen on some quality speakers or headphones; this sort of music especially benefits from proper low end as you know.

Recorded in Serato on two Technics 1200s, a Rane 72MKII and with live dubbing on a Benidub dub siren and Roland space echo pedal.

Ever since they moved to Hamburg in 2021, CHINYERE has been interested in mixing music like Gqom, Sgubhu, Jersey Club, Afrobeats, UK Garage and Amapiano. A year later, CHINYERE had the chance to take part in a DJ mixing workshop by the amazing DJ Collective "Slic Unit". After this introduction they cannot stop collecting, arranging and mixing different music genres like Gqom, Sgubhu, (Proto-)hyperpop, Deconstructed Club, Experimental Electronic and PC Music.

We had some technical issues this Tuesday, and couldn't deliver on time. Our bad. But let us make it up for you - we guarantee that you won't be disappointed. Today we bring you our next guest for our DJ Mixes series. Big up for Christian Martin!

If that name doesn't ring a bell in your head, you're definitely missing out a lot. Christian is a part of a Dirtybird (@dirtybirdrecords) family, a mastermind behind Dirtybird BBQ events, and a founder of Trippy Ass Technologies (@trippyasstechno) music label.

Dirtybird is a collaborative result of Christian, together with his brother Justin Martin, Claude Vonstroke and Worthy. Their mission is to make your feet move and put a smile on your face - their signature sound can be easily distinguished from everyone else's. Heavy basslines, absurd vocal samples and funky synths are there to remind the listener not to take life too seriously. It's about letting go and enjoying the moment - right here, right now. From throwing a party at one of the parks in San Fran, to becoming one of the most recognizable labels in the world, they came a long way to be where they are today.

2006 have seen the light of Christian's first production under Martin Brothers (@martinbrothers) alias together with Justin Martin and Claude Vonstroke. The Martin Brothers partnership has produced such hip-hop influenced hits as ‘Duckface’, ‘Stoopit’, & ‘Dum’, as well as remixes for Ed Banger and Fool's Gold. On his own, he's released his own brand of bassy house music on labels such as Dirtybird, Trapez, and Anabatic. His low end take on tech house has led to remixes for musical heavyweights such as Chromeo, Underworld, L-Vis 1990, and many more.

From Fusion (Germany) to Shambhala (Canada), to Coachella & Symbiosis (US), there's a constant demand for what he describes as “bass from the ground up.” Experience the sound of Dirtybird in its fullest with more than 2 hours of Christian's set from Dirtybird Quarterly.

Booms and Claps Mix 033 comes to us from one of Calgary, AB’s finest exports: the ever-consistent, diverse, and tasteful OAKK. We’re big fans of Western Canada’s bass music output, and OAKK is a delicious and integral slice of that Canadian crop. His sound tells a tale of refined beauty, unpredictability and spontaneity, and pure graft. It’s minimal, yet explosive… soft, but speaks loudly… serious, but playful. Something we find admirable in a producer is never taking the obvious route in production and composition, and that’s the name of the game for OAKK: each track explores new territory while retaining the familiarity of his signature sound. Coming off a huge set this summer at Merritt, BC’s Bass Coast Festival, a phenomenal release on Greazus’ Aufect Records imprint in May, and a big year for his club night in Calgary, “New Wave”, 2018 has seen impressive growth for OAKK, and we’ll undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on him in 2019. 

Almost as impressive as his productions are his skills as a DJ, and this mix is a clear representation of his talent as a selector. Ranging from UK drill rap, dark 130 breaks, dubstep, footwork jungle, 85 bpm wonky hip-hop beats, halftime stompers, and several of his own vocal bootlegs and DJ edits, OAKK really goes the distance here and displays his commitment to diversity, flow, and distinctiveness. His ability to tell a cohesive story while covering a vast amount of ground musically is nothing short of striking. Without further ado, we’re proud to present BnC Mix 033: OAKK.

Right off the heels of having his track remixed by living legend DJ Deeon, after previously working with Parris Mitchell, and currently working on a remix for another Dance Mania legend DJ Funk, Vancouver based producer and DJ, 'Garneau' is set to launch his own label titled https://soundcloud.com/clubdesigns (aka CD Music).

“I would describe Club Designs as a label dedicated to the new wave of producers whose styles are heavily influenced by the sounds of Chicago and Detroit in the formative years of electronic music” says Garneau. “The raw percussive sounds of ghetto house from labels like Dance mania and Cajual, as well as ghetto tech from Detroit artists like DJ Godfather and DJ Assault.”

“Our goal is to showcase the newest generation of producers keeping that vibe alive, while still focusing on the dancefloor. Expect lots of ghetto house, electro, some bmore-ish, a little Miami bass, and all around club focused music”.

We are aware that independent music is at a place right now where one should only be considering starting a new label if there’s a real necessity and purpose – if a scene, sound or artists cannot grow without the label’s guidance or platform. And for this style and group of people involved, we feel very strongly that a new, well-managed outlet is needed.

He just released a magnifique EP – The Mirror - on Permanent Vacation proving once again why he's on top of the game, his game. For years Mike Greene alias Fort Romeau has been delivering quality music on few selected labels such as Gerd Janson's Running Back, Spectral Sound, Live At Robert Johnson, Correspondant or Cin Cin, which he runs with Ali Tillett ever since its launch in 2015. Addtionally Fort Romeau has mixed and compiled music for the renowned BBC Essential Mix series, got his groove on for Dekmantel or Phonica and spun records for Groove Magazin. However, this is just an abstract of the artist's discography, which comes in both: reputable and respectable. But that's what Mike's been building up over or throughout his career, which seems to take and know one route only, namely that of going to the top and staying there due to quality and artsy music. For the 100th edtion of Torture the Artist Fort Romeau chose a deep housey yet at times technoid, partly experimental and spooky musical approach that hits the zeitgeist and portrays the strangeness but also the beauty and impact of music in this one hour and fifteen minute lasting piece of 2020. Taking the listener to the club and back, to the afterhour and into the raw atmosphere of a dark and sweaty club, #100 is exceptional in many ways but yet shows only one, that of Fort Romeau (to the top).

John Tejada is a Vienna-born, Los Angeles-based electronic music composer, DJ, and professor at CalArts. Tejada’s professional output of music began in 1994 and has never let up, including four albums for the revered label Kompakt, plus releases on Pokerflat, Cocoon, Plug Research, Seventh City, Playhouse, Defected, and his own label since 1996, Palette Recordings. Tejada has also been responsible for remixing over 100 songs for acts including The Postal Service, Télépopmusic, The Field, Bomb The Bass, Way Out West, Kevin Saunderson, Darren Emerson, Gui Boratto, Simian Mobile Disco and many others. Tejada’s latest venture as Wajatta is a new musical collaboration with international star Reggie Watts, having released their debut album, Casual High Technology, in 2018 and latest album Don’t Let Get You Down in 2020 on Brainfeeder.

Today marks the release of John's fourth LP, 'Year of the Living Dead' which John's describes here;

“The album was started using tools I was unfamiliar with, which became an interesting exploratory process,” Tejada says. “Staying away from the obvious and having to re-learn simple things was a fun challenge.” You can hear these new creative pulsions pushing the eight tracks on Year Of The Living Dead ever-forward; the album has a unique cast, and though there are trace elements of the genres Tejada has indulged previously, he’s never quite put them together this way before. There’s the dubwise glitter sprinkled across the moody opener “The Haunting Of Earth”, the kind caresses found amongst the deftly woven textures of “Sheltered”, and the churchy melancholy, all hymnal and golden, of “Echoes Of Life”
