For his latest release, French producer Antoine Garcin AKA Akumen, really brings the heat in his own inimitable way. The Between The Lines EP sees the main man return to his home imprint, Time Has Changed, thanks to the Between The Lines EP, a typically fascinating prospect that emphatically showcases a sound that’s been customized with his new live show in mind.

One quick listen to the title track, and it’s immediately apparent why this is indeed the case. Full of dexterous, beguiling synths and a sound exterior that produces numerous high-points throughout, it’s just as catchy as it is discerning, and a nimble dancefloor slayer that’s best suited to big systems.

On the remix front, Matthias Meyer elongates the original’s bassline and adds a heavy dose of techy atmosphere. It’s a subtle re-rub that quite excellently picks at and manipulates the original’s charming facets. Emerging Italian producer keeps the bells intact but jettisons much else on his remix, a more gregarious and sprightly listen than what’s come before. 

‘’That First Feeling’’ sees Acumen lead us on a merry dance that’s full of haunting moments and pure, full-on groove once more. A true masterclass in the complexity of production, it calls on numerous contrasting sounds and brings the noise in a big way. Lastly, ‘’Charlotte On The Rooftop’’ signs off with a cheeky forceful outlook, the type of which you’ll happily drift off to another place on the dancefloor. Another winner from the Time Has Changed boss. Watch out for his live show coming to a show near you in 2014.

The Thrill of It imprint continues to go from strength to strength, and now Time Has Changed label co-boss Acumen steps up for a new EP that once again confirms he is a modern great. As well as two original tracks, remixes come from Jules & Moss and Lee van Dowski and Dean Demanuele.

Opener Diagonal is a melodic, moody tech house cut with great vocals, sombre chords and magical synth patterns that are truly spiritual. The other original Thrill is a darker, more intricate techno leaning cut with the muffled sound of voices adding an air of tribalism to proceedings. 
Remixing Diagonal is Jules & Moss and they flip the track into a sinewy, skewed bit of late night house with a classic vocal sample treated in special ways. As the track unfolds all sorts of deep space drama does too and it’s a fine track as a result.

Last up is a remix of Thrill from Cadenza and Mobilee man Lee van Dowski with his partner in crime Dean Demanuele. The resulting track is a rolling, loopy bit of tech house with moody synths and slick metal drums. It will surely soar on Ibiza terraces as the summer draws to a close and is another massive release for this label.

Acumen, Antoine Garcin, is a French Producer / DJ with a back catalogue stemming releases on the likes of Diynamic, Last Night On Earth, Suara, Selador, Get Physical and his own Time Has Changed imprint.

Born a Parisian, but now living in his home of Avignon, Acumen has been making music since the 2000’s as a self taught artist with every creation coming direct from the musical ear. Although self taught and with parents that weren’t musically interested, music has always been at the forefront of his life whether it be Rock or Electronic. The Clash played a huge roll in the early years before the electronic and house bug took a hold, with the likes of Depeche Mode acting as that stepping stone to what is now a fully fledged career path in electronic music. DJing was the first door to open alongside friends, however the creative aspect soon appealed to Acumen as he set his sights on the studio.

"I was very quickly fascinated by musical creation, by what a good, melodious piece could do to people. The ecstasy, the trance that can be instilled on a dance floor." - Acumen

Aside from music, Acumen prides himself as a family fan, which is apparent when looking across the album releases to date. The first of which, dedicated to his first born son ‘My Superhero’, was followed by ‘My Girls’ a full LP dedicated to the women in his family, both of which dropping on his own label of Time Has Changed. His secondary career is Pharmacy, one which demonstrates the professionalism of Acumen across industries, being able to balance an impressive musical career, full time business and family.

Time Has Changed was born in 2007 at a time when the balance between studies and a passion for music were at heads with one another. Now more than ten years later the label has flourished, releasing the likes of Oxia, Betoko, Alex Niggemann, Mihai Popoviciu and Barem, and is regarded as one of the key players within the French music scene, delivering dance floor bound tech house.

Over the years Acumen has got behind the decks in some of the worlds top venues, including the infamous Panorama Bar and Paris’ Rex Club. 

With a string of recent releases on Sasha’s Last Night On Earth and Selador all landing well within the Beatport Top 100, Acumen has now demonstrated his talent as an artist, creating a pathway which is certainly bound for the top. The third in a series of album releases is set for release later into 2018 and will once again showcase his versatility in the studio and is aptly named ‘Brune’ after his youngest daughter.
