Goan native and founder of Hill Top Records DJ Starling teamed up with Sangoma’s Middle East fraction Jafar and Emiel (Gata Freak) with the intention to share a glimpse of the raw energy of India’s dancefloor – the source of our beloved Psytrance scene. This release also reflects the spirit of Sangoma Records – collaborating with friends and the aim to deliver a fresh outlook on contemporary Psychedelia. This EP is a celebration of the people and culture of Kerala, India.
Taking inspiration from Kadhakali and the beats of chenda, this is an amalgamation of the traditional pachavadhyam and electronic music.
When I was at a traditional festival dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali in Kerala, I got to experience the divine feminine energy and the inspiration I derived from that experience is reflected in this album.
The last track Oppees is a funeral track. It is a tribute to our beloved Sanjay who left us from the dance floor in 2024. Thalam, melam, aarambham!
