In anticipation of Finnish producer Jani R's forthcoming "Fragile" artist album on Silk Sofa, we're proud to present "A Thousand Flares", including an accompanying remix by UK producer Data Rebel. Jani R previously appeared on Silk Sofa with his "Collision" EP, as well as his lush remixes of Seagrave's "Tick Tock".

The Original Mix quickly establishes a unique and mesmerizing soundscape. Soon thereafter, gorgeous string layers emerge, as well as a beautiful and tranquil theme synth. As the song progresses, various percussion elements are introduced, accompanied by stunning textural sound effects. The song brilliantly showcases the quality of sounds and melodies to be expected on Jani's full-length artist album. Data Rebel is a new addition to the Silk Sofa roster, and his remix of "A Thousand Flares" could not be a better introduction. His remix begins with soothing pad and string lines, as well as refreshing sound effects in the background. A lush breakbeat is introduced soon thereafter, while an enjoyable bassline appears underneath. The song is continuously spiced up with new melodies and structural changes, enhancing the atmosphere even further.

Jani R - A Thousand Flares (Data Rebel Remix) [Silk Sofa]

PHW Elements are happy and proud to announce another great collaboration on our roster, as we have the great pleasure to have Noa Romana & Deersky among us with an excellent 3 track EP. With a reputation built up over the years though their musical talent, releasing music through great label over and over again, we of course couldn’t be happier than we are as they join our label as well.

Opening up is the title track “Things We’ll Never Understand” that is a wonderful deep production from these great collaborating producers. With deep and evolving dark textures, filled with quality pads that builds up a smooth atmosphere in the track. To top things up, they delivers truly nice melodic arrangements, that we feel are just developing this track to a fantastic progressive journey.

The 2nd production, taking place on this EP is the production baptized as “Goodbye”. Here you have another truly atmospheric production, built in a the same manner, through evolving strings and pads that builds and builds to an euphoria of sounds that leaves us in a great crescendo as we get to the breakdown. The melodies taking place there, is filled with warm textures and depth. It’s another astonishing production from 2 of the best in the business and we are truly happy to release something as good as this, it’s beyond heaven really. 

The 3rd and final production taking part, to complete the package is a track called “Star Blossom”. With more warm melodic arrangements, warmth built through majestic bass sounds, they pull of another plethora of sounds, built to perfection. The breakdown is as amazing as ever, and we are thrilled to have Noa Romana & Deersky as members in our PHW Elements, it’s a proud moment and hopefully you are to love this release as much as we do. Enjoy the journey created for you!

Few label newcomers have crafted a sound that so comfortably fits into the musical fabric of our imprint as rising talent Veeshy. His gorgeous soundscapes showcase deep, romantic textures and crystalline melodies, which evoke a state of reverie, if not catharsis, in the listener. We are thrilled to showcase four new cuts from the Australian composer, two of which were recently featured on our Silk Music Showcase 06 compilation.

Veeshy's EP kicks off with "Stimulate The Stars," which centers on an array of ethereal vocal stabs and profoundly lush and sensual pads. At the quarter turn, arpeggiated chords mesmerize the listener, soon followed by an equally entrancing new theme in the main breakdown. The return of the sensual bassline groove in the final stage of the song's arrangement is simply blissful.

The rapturous "Aural Ambience" introduces Veeshy signatures at every turn: a breathtaking vocal sample punctuates exceedingly deep pads and, of course, hypnotizing and mellifluous arpeggiated melodies carry the lead. The breakdown offers a meditative moment, in which the symphony of melodic sounds overtakes the listener and purges any feelings of anxiety or self-doubt.

In the deeply soothing "Evening Aesthetics," a cavernous bassline and celestial melody lines cast a dreamlike spell upon the listener. The romantic and soulful essence of this nocturnal ode further reveals itself throughout the arrangement, as angelic vocal stabs and ecstatic new melodies continue to emerge.

Veeshy's "2am" is a fitting closing track to his EP. Of all four songs on the release — a veritable journey through nocturnal soundscapes — this one proves to be the most dreamlike and evocative. A chilled groove is joined by a seductive vocal sample and mystical pads, as well as an entrancing lead melodic motif. The patient crescendo of the arrangement ultimately leads to a slightly more uptempo closing groove, in which the moody pads coalesce beautifully with the hypnotic melody lines.

Charlie May bio: As the architect behind many of the stylistic blueprint shifts in dance since the early heady days of acid house, Charlie May knows a thing or two about what makes a dance floor tick.
One half of revered progressive house pioneers Spooky; the engineer and producer of many of Sasha’s biggest singles and albums; highly respected solo producer in his own right, May has remained at the vivacious beating heart of house since the early ’90s.It was in 1992 that Charlie May and production partner Duncan Forbes made their maiden voyage as Spooky.3 years later, their most critically acclaimed album – 1995’s ‘Found Sound’ led the duo to become in high demand as remixers, reworking everyone from Sven Väth to William Orbit.
Taking a brief hiatus from Spooky, Charlie May went in search of a new project. Linking up with DJ superstar Sasha, their initial production collaboration was on a soundtrack to hit Playstation game Wipeout 3, and from there, Sasha tasked May with engineering a new version of an unreleased Spooky track ‘Xpander’, which was to become one of Sasha’s signature tracks.
The acclaimed ‘Airdrawndagger’ album (2002), again featured May behind the boards (alongside Junkie XL), as well as the following Global Underground mix album ‘Involver’. But eager to step out of the shadows, May had all this time been honing his solo chops, and with the release of the fresh ‘Bug EP’ on Junior Boys Own London, he began to garner props as a producer in his own right. Charlie’s solo incarnation was to bear further fruit in 2006, with the Charlie May vs. Sasha cut ‘Seal Clubbing’, a smash record for Renaissance.
Returning to the Spooky fold for a third album, ‘Open’, (2007), Spooky found themselves in New York City (during the album promo tour), where they settled to collaborate with Sasha on a succession of new productions for the DJ’s fresh label Emfire including ‘Coma’ and ‘Who Killed Sparky’. Off the back of these well-received cuts, the duo was brought in to assist with the production of ‘Involv2er’, the second volume in Sasha’s DJ mix/remixes series.
After a series of successful solo releases and remixes for various labels including Bedrock, Mayhem, Microcastle and Indigo amongst others, May has since established himself as a successful and in demand dj on the international club circuit. Regularly performing at venues worldwide from Pacha in Buenos Aires to Warung in Brazil to Chinese Laundry in Sydney.
Current studio projects include collaborations with James Lavelle/Unkle as well as Ulrich Schnauss. Singles for Bedrock and an ambient album of previously unreleased material
