Free DJ Set: Oliver Lieb Podcast for July 2013

After its outstanding reception following its initial release back in January, Wankelmut & Emma Louise's infectious single - 'My Head Is A Jungle' returns with a souped up package and is set to be released worldwide on 15TH September via Positiva. Heavily supported by BBC R1's Pete Tong, 'My Head Is A Jungle' was dubbed his 'Essential New Tune' back in February as well as receiving championing support from BBC R1's tastemaker Annie Mac. It comes as no surprise that the single is already platinum in Italy, top 30 in Germany (and rising) and top 5 airplay in South Africa!

Wankelmut who has mainly been deejaying in underground clubs in Berlin such as Sisyphos and MIKZ, became 'Newcomer of the Year' last year (GROOVE Magazine) and has been in high demand as both DJ and Remixer ever since. Wankelmut has a very entertaining and well crafted way of deejaying with a huge variety of styles from Deep House to Techno. Beside playing all over Europe he remixed Gossip, Jay Haze, Lukas Graham and various other underground records which established his status within the Techno House Scene. On his 24th birthday in December 2011 Wankelmut aka Jacob Dilßner uploaded his unofficial remix for Asaf Avidan's "Reckoning Song' to Soundcloud. More than one year later the now official remix has sold 1.3 Million copies on Sony/Columbia, scored over 100 Million Youtube Plays and entered the #1 spot in 8 european countries, as well as being the best-selling track on Beatport last year.

In cooperation with the talented Australian singer Emma-Louise, the duo deliver a finely tuned piece of melodic brilliance. Wankemut's faultless Tech-house production, and Emma-Louise's blissful vocals will have you instantly hooked and will be circling around your head for days to come. In addition to the supreme remix package from Gui Boratto, Kasper Bjorke and Solee, new remixes come from Friend Within, and Marc 'MK' Kinchen, who steps up to deliver one of his much loved MK edits which premiered last Friday on Pete Tong.

„Als ich das Licht der Welt erblickte...“ Mit diesen Worten beginnt die allererste Ausgabe des "Das haett es frueher nicht gegeben"-Podcasts, welche eben genau heute vor einem Jahr das Licht der Welt erblickte.

Wir werden ganz sicher nie das Gefühl vergessen, als unser Freund Manuel Scholze aka http://soundcloud.com/radiotherapie uns sein extra für uns aufgenommenes Set übersandte und wir es mit einem eigenen Logo versehen auf Soundcloud hochluden und mit anschauen konnten, wie immer mehr den Podcast, UNSEREN Podcast, anhörten und sich begeistern ließen. Und noch immer treibt es uns ein Grinsen aufs Gesicht, wenn wir uns unsere #01 anhören, die eben treffenderweise mit den Worten von Heinz Erhardt beginnt.

Und es ist keine Floskel, dass es uns schier sprachlos macht, wenn wir auf dieses Jahr unseres Podcasts zurückschauen. 24 großartige Künstler haben unvergessliche Sets aufgenommen, eine Schnapsidee wurde zu einer unserer erfolgreichsten Ausgaben und insgesamt wurde der gesamte Podcast auf SC rund 160.000 (!!!) mal angehört. Für uns aber mindestens ebenso großartig ist die Tatsache, dass der Podcast über iTunes, andere Podcastplayer und RSS mittlerweile auch über 16.000 Plays und 3000 Downloads zu verzeichnen hat – ganz ohne SocialMedia Umfeld. 

Unser Dank geht natürlich in erster Linie an die Künstler, denen wir dieses großartige Jahr zu verdanken haben. Es ist einfach immer wieder schön zu erleben, dass besonders viel Liebe und Sorgfalt in die Sets hineingesteckt wird, um gerade für uns etwas ganz Besonders zu „liefern“ – zumindest war das eine der häufigsten Rückmeldungen von den Interpreten. Und wir dürfen auch schon verraten, dass wir uns bereits auf die kommenden Wochen und Monate freuen, denn viele weitere Künstler haben schon ihre Zusage gegeben.

Vor allem aber danken wir EUCH! Euch Lesern und Hörern und Musikbegeisterten! Jeder einzelne von euch hat den Podcast zu dem was gemacht, was er nach eigentlich so kurzer Zeit schon ist: Eine feste Größe in der Szene der elektronischen Musik. Wir freuen uns über jeden Kommentar unter den Sets, auf facebook oder auf unserer Website. Ihr seid großartig und wir sind stolz auf solch eine „Fanbase“!

Nun aber genug der Worte – es ist Zeit für Geschenke, wie es sich für einen richtigen Geburtstag eben gehört. Geschenk Nummer 1 ist unser Special, an dem drei Künstler beteiligt waren. Bei den Dreien handelt es sich um unsere lieben Team-Mitglieder. Ohne diese Drei – das steht fest – hätten wir das Projekt nicht so weit voran treiben können, wie wir es nun geschafft haben. Die eigentliche Besonderheit ist aber, dass die drei es geschafft haben, quer durch die Republik über die Entfernungen hinweg gemeinsam ein Set aufzunehmen, das einerseits wie aus einem Guss wirkt, gleichzeitig aber auch drei ganz unterschiedliche Facetten aufweist, für die jeder und jede einzelne von den dreien verantwortlich ist. Ein kleiner Hinweis: In letzter Zeit ist sie häufig mit einem Künstler anzutreffen, der ebenfalls bereits vor ein paar Monaten schon einen Beitrag zum Podcast geliefert hat.

홍대 상수도와 MI 에서 시작한 한국의 언더그라운드 클럽씬이 홍대 전역, 이태원, 강남은 물론 전국 대도시로 확산되면서 폭발적인 발전을 거듭한지도 거의 20년이 됐다. 이제는 세계적인 DJ들이 꼭 거쳐갈만큼 서울도 클러버들이 즐길수 있는 문화도시의 대열에 꼈다. 세계 여느 도시의 클럽발전사를 보면 점점 더 상업적으로 변모해가는 대형클럽형 유행 속에서 음악의 본질을 잃지 않는 양질의 놀거리는 도시의 아이콘으로 부상한다. 지난 20년 가까이 국내 클럽문화를 이끌어온 DJ 연준과 그의 크루들은 서울을 대표하는 클럽을 만들고자 Club MYSTIK에 모였다. 2011년 10월28일 오픈 예정인 MYSTIK에서는 국내에서 접할 수 없었던 음향과 비주얼 시스템은 몰론, 엄선된 Deep House, Tech House를 기반으로 한 정통 사운드를 접할 수 있다. 또 크루들의 세계적인 DJ들과의 협업을 통한 다양한 DJ 파티도 준비중이다.

It’s now hard to imagine a summer that won’t be sound tracked by Hot Natured’s sleazy Intergalactic funk and distinct bassline brilliance so it’s lucky the boys are back with ‘Forward Motion’ - their first release for own imprint Hot Creations and dancefloor gold in the purest sense. Disco delinquent Ali Love provides lead vocals.

A-side ‘Forward Motion’ is an irresistible creation of moody basslines, eerie electric wizardry and Ali Love’s seductive echoing vocal, which marks a step towards full-blown collaboration song writing where pure melody and trademark slick production collide. Rave keys pierce the signature deep bounce along with soaring synths and lust-filled lyrics that make for an Infectious blend of romance and debauchery. ‘Forward Motion’ is the party bomb just waiting to explode.

‘B4 The Bentley’ is vintage Hot Natured plain and simple. The oscillating synth line will have you hooked and spaced out soulful keys and bumping bassline will have you daydreaming about palm tree lined streets rolling by in your Cadillac. Reminiscent of a ghetto block party, final freaky instalment ‘Ice Cream Party’ features Birmingham’s Below Crew sampled at an after party in a an Ice Cream Van. It all gets a little bit wonky with it’s swinging siren paired with an old school block-party vibe. Sexy bodies will be working it indeed, all summer long.

Jamie Jones and Lee Foss aka Hot Natured started the Hot Creations label only last year and already it has become a towering inferno of future-facing, funk infused house music, both inimitable and highly addictive. Previous releases have introduced an array of talented family and friends including Robert James, Burnski, LA’s De Signer and FB Julian but it’s with their hotly anticipated third EP that the pair marks the amalgamation of both projects. After two highly celebrated EPs on the LA based Culprit label ‘H.E.A.D.S’ and ‘Equilibrium’, Hot Natured now welcome the talented vocalist and musician Ali Love to the fore for future classic A-side ‘Forward Motion’. Known for his own brand of retro Italo-disco pop, Ali’s recent album ‘Love Harder’ was critically acclaimed for Ali’s catchy falsetto charm and his depiction of late night leanings. Lee Foss already gave his latest single ‘Moscow Girl’ the Hot Natured treatment and here, the union of forces reaches full effect. I love opening sets.

Opening sets allow the DJ to create the atmosphere for an entire night and are a true challenge (and lost artform) for those DJs, who travel from town to town every weekend playing 2 hour peak-time sets.

Opening sets allow to play tracks (and / or songs) that you usually don't hear in a club when you arrive after a certain time due to the DJs fear of losing people off the dancefloor (so what? :-D ).

For this and other reasons I dedicate this mix to those who tend to come (too) late and to those who come early at the same time and send a huge "THANK YOU!" to those who were participating LIVE in this session. 
Also to those who contributed a few "WHOOHOOOs" in silent passages - one of the many nice things you only get when playing vinyl :)

It was a pleasure seeing the packed floor bouncing...early, did I mention that?

Jamie Jones is back with a killer release for Crosstown Rebels. New single ‘Moan & Groan’ is a vintage Jones production full of bounce, quirks and sex appeal. It's joined by two remixes of ‘Tonight In Tokyo’ from Jamie’s album of secret weapons ‘Tracks From The Crypt’, released last summer. Both showcasing their own sharp, signature styles, Ben Westbeech’s darker alias Breach drops the deep bass while French house icons Cassius introduce epic chords and sky­scraping synth lines.

Jamie Jones is renowned for his innovative music; his cross genre band, Hot Natured; and his pioneering label, Hot Creations ­ now with the off­shoot Hot Trax. Author of two solo albums for Crosstown Rebels, Jamie has also delivered a number of scene-­defining anthems including ‘Summertime’, his remix of Green Velvet’s ‘Flash’ and Azari & III’s ‘Hungry For The Power’. Plus Stunning reworks of The XX include ‘Crystalised’ and latest hit ‘Sunset’.

With a Hot Natured album due this year on Hot Creations / FFrr / Warners, Jamie is illuminating the niche world of underground house music, most recently proven with the band’s sold out debut live shows at Brixton Academy. Easily one of the most hard working DJs on the planet, Jamie’s endless touring schedule includes nearly every major city and festival in the world including such spectacles as Glastonbury, Tomorrow Land, and Burning Man, as well as highly esteemed clubs like Warung, Fabric, and Womb. In addition, he holds his own Ibiza party, Paradise every summer at DC­10.
