This strictly limited vinyl release is the 5th release to come out of Naarm based label ILIO Records - a label which has housed artists Midnight Tenderness, Mic Mills, DJ Heure and more.

Titled ‘Mood Independent’, this 4 track EP comes from rising Naarm artist Marli. A stunning solo project which exudes 4 different motifs, 4 different genres, and 4 different moods entirely. An artist who has showcased powerhouse sets at Let Them Eat Cake’s main stage, Pitch Music & Arts iconic Pitch Black Stage, and Novel’s signature smalltown event, this release comes highly anticipated.

Written during Melbourne’s extensive lockdown in 2021, the EP explores genres house, breakbeat, nu-jazz, experimental, incorporates spoken word poetry, and Marli’s own vocals. While it dips its toes into being defined as dance music, as always, Marli has executed her signature style beautifully, one that offers more than your average club track. It evokes complex emotions, featuring rich tones and instrumentation, and a sense of nostalgia unlike any other artist.

“Mood Independent” feels like an apt title for this project. I’m proud to have curated, written, produced, and mixed the entire project myself. I didn’t show these works to anyone while writing them - or for a long time after they were finished. Mainly because I wanted to trust my own creative instincts so completely, and not be influenced by others opinions. This was really scary, and at times made me insecure, but I’m really proud of the final project, and I think it feels like the truest expression of me, and my style” - Marli

Having released works on Yellow Island (BRA), Love Above Records (AUS), Backpocket Slammers (AUS), Revolver Upstairs The Late Show Record Label (AUS) and forthcoming releases on Homage (NY) and Velodrome (AUS), this highly anticipated debut EP and record is a stunning introduction into the breadth and maturity of work that Marli exudes when left to her own devices to create freely.
