Drumcode treasures Alan Fitzpatrick and Joel Mull link for their debut collaboration, complemented by a rare Adam Beyer remix. This is special in every sense

Tis the season for something different; interesting collaborations and the broadening of creative boundaries is the order of the day. Long-time friends and techno colleagues Alan Fitzpatrick and Joel Mull are the latest to connect for a fresh production outing, ‘We Don’t Know Anything Yet’. Inspired by the Buddhist saying ‘Nothing is forever except change’, the duo work alongside Swedish band Frangie to craft an ascendent techno cut that explores existential questions about the future, all the while being propelled by a strong rhythmic underbelly.

Beyer’s first remix in two years is inspired. The boss sharpens his focus on the vocal, while teasing out the melody, ripening the track for a mid-morning post-peak-time moment when the sun starts to bathe the dancefloor is a hazy gentle glow. A masterstroke.

Annexed away from the spotlight glare of his tastemaker Drumcode label, Mad Eye is Adam Beyer’s own production platform with no strict music policy, release schedule or artist roster. A personal musical retreat; the record label equivalent of a good holiday, Mad Eye releases are few and far between. Waited on with anticipation and excitement as Beyer comes up with something different from the norm, uninhibited by any expectation.

Adam Beyer’s latest Mad Eye offering has been a long time coming. Released just over two years since the previous EP, followers of the label will immediately recognize the understated, groove-filled tech house tones for which Mad Eye is know. ‘Flap’ leads things off with a burrowing groove underpinning hypnotic, jittery effects and intricate layering while b-side ‘Dot’ brings low throbbing bass, weaving metallic sounds and punchy beats. Finally, ‘Twist’ fuses swinging percussive vigor with deep shunting bass and haunting drawn-out horns to complete a classic sounding Mad Eye record.

Christian Smith is back to Drumcode with a full force, high energy EP. ‘Force Majeure’, consisting of three driving techno tracks, is laced with energetic crescendos, thumping kick drums and deep bass lines. Timmo’s unique sound has captured the eyes and ears of many highly revered techno DJs around the world and his ‘System’ release is a stark reminder of exactly why this is. ‘Intensify’ is a big room record that is set to do some real damage on dance floors worldwide. This peak time tool thumps through 7 minutes of power, dragging you in and throwing you out the other side as the track rolls on. 
‘The Maze’ is an example of his excellent production, with his use of synths on a level that some producers take years to hone. ‘System’ is a haunting track, authentic four-to-the-floor techno that screams in to top gear right from the off. The release closes with the more groove and bass line laden ‘Together’. One of those tracks that is guaranteed to get stuck in your head…
