Here you go my friends, something different from me….

This is not a promo mix and I’m not trying to generate work off the back of it, it’s simply a mid-tempo DJ mix.  I have been collecting tracks for a while that didn’t seem to fit anywhere in my sets, but that I really love, so I decided to put them into a mix in their own right… music with a late night, deep & sleazy electronic feel, full of atmosphere, with a splattering of dark funk thrown in. 

I’ve got plenty of brand new peak time releases coming shortly on my Lowering The Tone imprint, from Pook/ & Lola, Lee Coombs, Matt Goddard/Dopamine, Ben Coda, Carbon Kingdom and myself, but in the meantime welcome to the “Den Of Iniquity” :-)

Back to Mine: Nick Warren is a DJ mix album, the first in the Back to Mine series, compiled and mixed by Nick Warren. The mix focuses on downtempo tracks, with Allmusic calling it "a smart and non-confrontational mix safe from predawn noise complaints". CMJ New Music Report called it a "felicitous cocktail of psilocybin and mescaline". Iain Stewart, in The Rough Guide to Ibiza and Formentera, viewed Warren's mix as one of the best in the series.

Adam Freeland - Transitions

Through his 'Coastal Breaks' mix CDs in the late Nineties, and his own Marine Parade label at the turn of the century, Adam Freeland was synonymous with the breaks & edits scene that was prevalent. As a resident at Fabric, he contributed to the renowned 'FabricLive' series as well as popular mix series 'Back To Mine' and 'Global Underground'. As an artist and remixer, he bothered the Top 40 and even earned a Grammy nomination. Living back in California now, the Brit is also part of 'The Acid', a band he's formed with Californian Steve Nalepa and Australian artist RY X. For your first working Monday of the year (probably), we asked him to make a mix from the middle of the desert for us, and answer a few questions...

In Hour 2 we hand over to Adam Freeland who has been producing music for over two decades, which included running his Marine Parade label out of Brighton, a 10 year residency at Fabric and nomination for a Grammy. Now he is part of The Acid, which includes RY X from The Howling. He told us; 
"This mix is really just an acknowledgement of my lifelong love of arpeggiators and excitement for this new wave of arpeggiated synth stuff combined with some deeper drones and desert psych influences. I’m living totally off grid way out in the Mohave desert near Joshua tree, where this mix was recorded. My studio is solar powered ( no other option out here), there’s an exhilarating feeling to know that the photons running through the circuit boards of my machines emanated from the surface the Sun just 8 mins and 20 seconds prior. Of late, I’ve been more focused on my band ‘The Acid’  and pursuing my lifelong dream of living off grid and figuring out how to build a house than DJing. Incase you missed it we ( The Acid) put out a debut album called ‘Liminal’ and more recently we scored a documentary film  ‘the bomb’  a documentary about the story of nuclear weapons. We have been touring film festivals, performing the score in a 360 immersive environment live to the film. In December we performed it live at the Nobel peace prize ceremonies in Oslo which was in incredibly inspiring and moving experience for me.
