The composition describes the emotions we may experience when life gets tough, while still having hope. It is as if we're in a boat that is at the mercy of a tumultuous sea with its raging waves that threaten our very existence and wellbeing, before we finally get saved.

This is similar to the Biblical event when the Lord's disciples were in a boat and called for Jesus to calm the storms, thinking He was asleep at the back (Matthew 8:23-27, Mark 4:35-41 and Luke 8:22-25). The composition ends with the affirmation that the Lord Jesus is with us as He was with the disciples at the time, and asks Him to calm the storms around us.
