Commissioned by Edward "Chip" Dalton for the Lakeland Chorale, Come, Soft Slumber sets both the Latin and English text of the Virgin’s Cradle Hymn, a poem copied by Samuel Taylor Coleridge from a print he saw in a German village. Musicians will realize the opening motive used to set the ancient text is inverted when setting the modern translation. The work is published by GIA (G-6368).

Commissioned by Christ Church Christiana Hundred, Wilmington, DE, Bruce Barber, Conductor, Who Has Made This World is given in loving memory of David Lockart by his family and friends. The text is an adaptation by the composer of Job 12: 7–10. The recording is from a live performance by Christ Church at York Minster Cathedral in York, England.
David was a dear friend who also studied composition with me and sang with Christ Church. I was deeply moved and honored to compose this work in his memory. I wrote the tenor line with David's beautiful voice in mind and smile to imagine him singing along with this wonderful ensemble.

Hey, I’m Lori DeAnn—a songwriter and vocalist from Fort Worth, Texas. I started writing songs during a time of big personal change, when I realized that the poetry I’d been writing for years was really just music waiting to happen. That’s when everything clicked, and I found my voice again—literally and creatively.

I don’t play an instrument, but I do sing, and I’ve always had a strong feel for how music works—how rhythm, layers, and emotion come together to tell a story. I’m inspired by all kinds of sounds: country, blues, 80s rock, pop—basically anything with a great beat and something real to say.

My songs are all about emotion—falling in love, falling apart, finding yourself again, and working through grief. Music has always helped me say the things I couldn’t quite put into words, and I hope my songs do that for someone else too. I’m Dean R. Chandler — a London based songwriter, recording artist, and storyteller. My music is rooted in a lifelong search for meaning, weaving together themes of love, loss, faith, alien contact, and humanity’s future.

My upcoming double concept album Human Odyssey (set for release in January 2027) is the culmination of decades of writing and reflection. It’s a narrative journey that begins with a search for God and ends with an encounter with extraterrestrial intelligence — exploring not only what it means to be human, but also where we might be heading as a species. Musically, it draws inspiration from the epic storytelling of Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds, the synth-driven edge of Gary Numan, and the emotional depth of artists like Tori Amos and Chris de Burgh.

I previously released Time Machine – Reflecting Shattered Dreams (2014) and continue to revisit my archive of songs written across 35 years, reimagining them with today’s tools and sounds. Some pieces remain intimate and acoustic, while others expand into dark rock, industrial, or orchestral landscapes — but all are connected by a focus on emotional honesty and cinematic storytelling.

Beyond music, I’m fascinated by the intersection of creativity and technology. I’ve been experimenting with AI-driven composition and production to bring old demos to life and to spark entirely new works. For me, these tools are not replacements for human artistry but extensions of it — ways of unlocking stories and emotions that otherwise might have remained hidden.

At its heart, my work is about connection: to the past, to the future, and to the unseen mysteries of existence. Music, for me, isn’t just entertainment — it’s a chronicle of transformation, a conversation between spirit, science, and sound.

Joel Phillips taught at Westminster Choir College for 39 years. He is co-author of several textbooks in W. W. Norton’s Musician’s Guide series, including The Musician's Guide to Fundamentals, now the mostly widely used musical text in its market. One breath that lasts an hour.

Lyrically, my work is rooted in lived experience. Sometimes it’s obvious. Other times it’s just the skeleton of a memory, dressed up in wit, irony, or longing. I draw from real-life events, then let the poet in me twist, stretch, or sweeten them to taste. Depending on the tone of the album — playful, romantic, nostalgic, or something in between — I try to keep the emotional truth intact while giving it a fresh coat of creativity. A little humor where it fits. A deeper dive where it hurts.

My newest jazz album continues this tradition — short-lined swing tracks, conversational duets, and tongue-in-cheek storytelling. It’s an homage to late-night alleyway ballads, rooftop serenades, and train station goodbyes — all bound together with a sense of charm and cohesion. Each song is its own little scene, but together they tell a story — one you can revisit with each replay.
