The guest mix in the second hour is by Roul Bauer aka Vicious Steam Engine who's from Lörrach in Germany. His dream of moving to Cambodia to be a Fitness Coach for ex-pats was frustrated by lockdown, so he bought a Controller and taught himself how to DJ. He now creates mixes like the one you’re about to hear.

What and who is A Darker Wave?
We are a duo (jacki-e & p-mac) who present A Darker Wave every week only on NLive Radio, Circl8 Radio, Echo Radio & Chill Lover Radio. We put the show together in our home studio. The show is streamed worldwide on the internet. Each show is posted on our Soundcloud, Mixcloud, Hearthis.at, Podbean and You Tube pages once it has been streamed and presents the best in new techno releases.
We also play gigs as A Darker Wave and we have played at events in Germany and all over the UK.
The music we play is techno, tech house, deep house and anything else we like enough to include in the show.
Each show is 2 hours long. In the first hour we go into the mix with our featured EP of the week and the best of the new releases.
In the second hour we invite new and upcoming DJs to come onto the show and do a guest mix.

Why are you called A Darker Wave?
Dark Wave was first used in the 1980s to describe a dark and melancholy variant of new wave and post-punk music and was first applied to UK musicians such as Bauhaus, Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy, Cocteau Twins, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Depeche Mode and Anne Clark. It was also used to describe artists who combined music with performance art, such as Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire, who challenged and explored the darker and obsessive sides of the human condition.

A lot of techno takes its spirit and ethos from this music, Listen to Throbbing Gristle or Cabaret Voltaire and you can hear the industrial sounds which are a staple of techno music today.

Techno is the outsider of electronic dance music, the punk of today's modern music scene. As Dave Clarke said in an interview with Mixmag, " Techno is edgy. Techno will challenge you......it's the real dark art."

Our radio show, in presenting the best in underground techno and deep house music, and in giving an opportunity for new, up and coming DJ's and producers, is providing an outlet for new techno, which is best described as being the new wave of modern dance music.

Not just a new wave, but with it's incessant bass rumblings, synthesiser drones, pounding drums, melodic top notes and eerie, distorted vocal samples, techno, in all its forms, is a backdrop to and a critique of our post-industrial, consumerist society, one in which our actions are observed 24/7, our democratic freedoms are threatened by our very own governments and our rights to do, think and act as we please are under ever increasing scrutiny. Techno really is A Darker Wave.

When we were listening to music in the 60’s and 70’s, before the electronic tentacles of technology infiltrated the world, we often thought, whilst listening to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Hawkwind, Captain Beefhart, New York Dolls and Roxy Music, where would music go to in the future? It could never be what was being portrayed in the science fiction movies of the time. Now we know. It can be anything. When we have a recording studio in our own home which is more powerful and versatile than anything available back then, we now know music can be anything and go anywhere. It is only the spark of our imaginations, or lack of it, that holds us back. On our laptop computers we have the capabilities that many artists back then would have given their right arms for. It’s for the uniqueness of the artist to express themselves to be able to stand out from the deluge of music available. Finding those gems is the modern day equivalent of crate digging and when you do, it makes it all worthwhile. Long live music!!!!

Jolly Joker is a DJ and producer of electronic music, known for his style that blends techno, trance and progressive influences. His career has been characterized by continuous evolution, pushing more and more the boundaries of genres and trying to create a sound that was both powerful, emotional and engaging. With a passion for sound experimentation and a unique approach to production, Jolly Joker has managed to earn a prominent place in the international underground scene.

Born in Genoa and now based in Milan and Miami, Jolly Joker has developed a deep interest in electronic music from a young age. Raised in a musical context full of stimuli, he approached the dance scene of the 90s, a period in which genres such as trance and techno began to dominate the dance floors. His passion for these sounds pushed him to become a DJ, performing in local clubs and perfecting his technique.

His DJ career took off when he started referring to the big names on the European scene, but it's with his transition to music production that he's really caught on, developing a sound that mixes dreamy atmospheres with powerful bass and energetic rhythms.

Jolly Joker is known for his ability to mix the intensity of techno with the dreamy atmospheres and engaging trance melodies. His sound is characterized by powerful basses, hypnotic synthesizers and expertise in the use of rhythmic constructions. His tracks are often deep and progressive, with an intense attention to sound detail and a care for the dynamics that incites movement on the dancefloors.

His influences come mainly from artists who have marked the history of the techno and trance scene, such as Sven Väth, Carl Cox, Paul van Dyk and Ferry Corsten. The evolution of his sound is also the reflection of his double base, between Milan, the epicenter of the Italian techno scene, and Miami, a crossroads of global electronic music, which allowed him to come into contact with different musical cultures, further enriching his repertoire.

Jolly Joker began producing his music in the late 2000s, and quickly gained attention with his first tracks and remixes. His studio technique evolved rapidly, leading him to make songs that were supported and played by world-class DJs at major festivals and clubs.

His productions stand out for a perfect combination of energy and melody, which has become his trademark. Each Jolly Joker track is designed to engage the audience, with build-ups that create wait and drop that explode in powerful sound waves. His music is appreciated for its ability to create moments of great emotional intensity, combined with an inexorable rhythm that pushes the body to move.

Throughout his career, Jolly Joker has had the opportunity to perform at some of the most prestigious clubs and festivals in Europe and the United States, earning a solid fan base in both regions. Honey Hell is a Brazilian Techno DJ and Producer known for his unique, sexy, and danceable style. As part of the upcoming generation of talents, his beats effortlessly blend dark, funky grooves with jacking, tribal rhythms.

Alien2U (aka Adam Davis) is a 31-year-old song writer and singer who has enjoyed music since he was a child.  He was raised in east Texas and currently lives in the Houston area.  Some of his favorite performers are Taylor Swift, Kelly Clarkson, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Adam Lambert and Troye Sivan.    Alien2U has been a song writer for over 15 years and has recorded a few songs in the past couple of years.   In late 2022 Adam began the planning and development of his first album, Alien Lowlife, which he completed in December 2022 and was released in June 2023 and is available on SoundCloud, Spotify, Amazon Music and YouTube.  The lead single from the album along with an accompanying music video is scheduled to be released in January 2023.   Alien2U’s first album includes a variety of music genres including indie pop, pop and alternative rock and is meant to demonstrate his wide range of musical abilities.  Alien2U’s songs  on his album cover many topics that everyone can relate to such as not feeling like you belong in whatever situation that you may be in as well as the ups and downs experienced in personal relationships.  He has a keen interest in extraterrestrials/spacecraft and believes we are not alone in the universe.
