At first it was simply a legend handed down from generation to generation: the prophecy that foretold the coming of the masked one. Only he could release the people of this frail new world from unrivaled tyranny.

Here, nothing was sacred; nothing was untouchable. On this barren foreign planet, mothers would hold their sons as they watched their world burn away. Incessantly, the raw resources were depleted, their new home catastrophically exploited, and the bright sky now blackened like charcoal. And so inevitably it was only a matter of time before these poor settlers were forced into brutal submission by the totalitarian regime and wired up to the system’s Mortal Engine – through unrivalled clandestine technology, glistening wires and tubes, their very bodies would fuel the raging industrial fires of the new age. And for this, they would pay the ultimate price.

Yet nobody objected. Not one soul mounted their righteous revolution against this bloody regime of pure human exploitation, because nobody knew. Because for them, nothing ever changed. Because the system was already inside their minds.

However there was one spark of hope left for this innocent race… the masked one. His true name was known to but a few, but his legend was known to all. For when the human race first fled Earth and arrived on this godforsaken new world, it was told that the masked one would be the deliverance from despair, from insanity and from evil. And when he came, not one soul would be left behind.

An unsettled mind never sleeps. His journey has lasted eons, and yet he has many eons still to go.

In his dreams - few and far between now - he always envisions an ocean, its size unknowable and its allure totally unshakable. It represents everything that has alluded him thus far. It is the waves of torment crashing against him; it is the sea of doubts confronting him. Why does he continue this seemingly futile quest to find his purpose, when that very purpose remains so infuriatingly out of reach?

And so amidst his struggles, enveloped by the raging torrents of his own despair, he banishes his fears, and seeks his absolution.

ADDIKTION is the artist name of Loïc Couthier, French EDM Producer and Sound Designer based in London, UK.

Loïc made a name for himself in France by becoming the youngest French airplane pilot at the age of just 15.

When he wasn’t flying planes he was learning the dark arts of producing electronic music, a passion that was ignited after discovering the likes of The Chemical Brothers & The Prodigy whilst playing WipEout on his PlayStation.

Fast forward a few years and he’s realised a dream by working as Sound Design Supervisor at PlayStation Studios - including working on the game that inspired him, WipEout, and more recently Returnal on PS5.

Not only that but one of his productions, 'Shake It', was selected for the Soundtrack and Trailer of WipEout Omega for PS4 and PSVR.

Both WipEout and Returnal have been praised for their Sound Design and Music by players and audio professionals around the world, with multiple awards including BAFTAs.

'Shake It' was ADDIKTION’s first official release. The new 'Spektrum EP' is finally being released in 2024, with new tracks available now!
