Culprit keeps the heat up with another collection of jams pitched perfectly for this summer’s dancefloors. The man behind it is the US-born, Taiwan-based producer William Trilogy, who made his Culprit debut on the last Above the City compilation back in 2021. He joins the likes of Adriatique, Lorenzo Dada, Dance Spirit and Galen among those who made the Above the City-to-full EP release leap. It’s some company and William shows that he belongs with “Push: Play”

The three originals are imbued with the classic deep house feel, meshing the US and European deep sounds. The vinyl crackle, the sunset-ready vibe, the smooth sway of the crisp percussion – whether as a warm-up gear or end-of-day selection on a discerning dancefloor, “Push: Play” won’t let you down.

This week on Topshelf we're delighted to have with us German DJ, edit extraordinaire & Smile for a While head, Mr. Fonk.

A vinyl collector, Disco lover and 22 year veteran DJ, Mr. Fonk has built up an incredibly rich knowledge and passion for dance music, starting in the 80's with Italo disco, new wave, new romantics and Radio pop, which was later strengthened through the 90's with the addition of House and Techno.

Playing all over Germany in the mid 2000's, Mr. Fonk decided to start his own events series in 2011, which has seen him go on to host the likes of Johannes Albert, Move D, Phonk D & Vakula to name a few.
He'd then built on the events to form his label under the same name which has seen releases from artists including Duccio, Kolja Gerstenberg, Matthieu Faubourg and Monosoul.

We came across his work however, when we stumbled across his frightfully delicious edit of Nacht und Nebel's 'Victoria 2000' and later, onto his discocentric edit of Two Tons O' Fun's  'Earth Can Be Just Like Heaven'.

The Library LMD Presents Topshelf 091 w/ Mr. Fonk

Ralph Lawson and his 2020 Vision Recordings have created a vibrant trail of releases, making it one of the most loved and respected imprints in the industry.  Here the landmark label continues its quest to present quality leftfield electronica to the dance world with LA based band ASHRR, who mark their debut on 20/20 in fine style, recruiting original dub pioneer Scientist into the studio to create a series of Live Dubs of ‘Fizzy’.

ASHRR was born in 2018 amidst the vibrant musical landscape of Los Angeles and is made up of Ethan Allen, Josh Charles, Steven Davis. Masterfully combining vocal harmonies that illuminate the euphoria of those hazy 70s grooves. Space disco, post-punk, electronica with touches of alternative soul. Think Roxy Music jamming with ESG on a warm sunny Sunday in Central Park, and you’ve got the vibe.

Hopeton Brown aka Scientist has been at the forefront of the dub reggae scene since being an integral engineer at the legendary Tubby’s Studio owned by
King Tubby in Kingston, Jamaica way back in the ‘70s. Scientist went on to produce countless reggae hits at the equally renowned Channel One for artists including Johnny Clarke. Linval Thompson and Barrington Levy. 

Two versions of the ‘Scientist Fizzy Dub’ grace the record with edits courtesy of
Ralph Lawson and ASHRR themselves. On the flip, Felix Dickinson returns on disco dub duties with a previously unreleased extended version of ‘Fizzy’ following the release of the original remix on Crazy P Curate Vol. One that caused a whole heap of damage at festivals like Love International last summer. 

The extended version is an epic 10-minute disco excursion that conjures up visions of ESG live at Paradise Garage. ASHRR also offer up a brand-new creation made for the dance floor and DJs in the form of their 'ASHRR Soundsystem Mix’ which serves as an exclusive treat on the digital package.

A full dj, one of those who keeps the same passion as he used to more than 10 years ago when he started playing and organizing events. He runs @discotecagalactica, a promoter and mix series that has established one of the best parties in Madrid to the day.
Since he moved to Madrid in 2001 he has taken part in loads of music projects, and even created his own ones as the famed @discotecagalactica, as long as played at the best clubs in town. Mainly known for his disco side, Eder Croket is a true eclectic DJ with a progressive and EBM background, who nowadays moves through different genres, always with a remarkable technique.
