I'm 23. Time flies when you're shaken and transitioned consistently but regardless I'm still here (and still working on Samantha 2). A few of these were made in the peak pandemic era, so in the midst of the hysteria I pivoted MORE towards more louder and obnoxious danceable stuff (probably to keep sane). It's still fun making the electronic stuff from time to time.

this is a continuation of several conversations we've had over the years about home in relation to our shared hometown, home country and the values we've come to collect and grow towards in our life away from those homes.  this round, we explore our shared origins in ethiopia through the stories and creative production of femme singers and songwriters from that region. we are curious and suspicious about what happens to nationalism when women and femmes are centered. how does nationalism's kinship to patriarchy play out in these artists' lives and in our own? does nationalism survive when we center ourselves and our values? does it survive when we center the safety and agency of marginalized people?

Each title in the 'Music in Exile Remixed' series will see a contemporary producer from the Australian scene take a deep dive with one of our Music in Exile artists, reimagining their music for an entirely new setting. Parameters will shift, an original expression of feeling from a land long distant will be transplanted into the present moment. How will these new surroundings affect the original recordings?
