This young producer from Menorca surprises us with a complete work where he reaches the maximum exponent of his deep and minimal sound. The evolution of this artist it’s notorious on ‘Bodied’ where the quality jump is more than visible.

Also head honcho of Talayotik Records, a free download platform where he showcases some interesting newcomers as Rollyax, Arxiva or Violent Cuts; (artists that share roster with Parallel) this youngster from Menorca is not only a DJ and a producer but also a promoter of the scene, and his humble character and his continuous work made him the best candidate to join the family.

Making strong movement across both the Bristol and Hereford scenes, the forward-thinking, minimally-minded Dubruvvas duo have been incredibly impressive as of late. Hastily swinging a double edged clever of methodical efficiency and high-scale production prowess, they’ve made a serious, sustained impact on release for the likes of TS Audio, Identity Records, The Mob Recordings, Deeper DnB, Invicta Audio and more, taking in many of the illustrative facets and pivots of the wider drum & bass spectrum along the way.

‘Third Eye’ excels in its wonderful simplicity; a less-is-more approach is executed to its full potential, with syncopated wobbles, sinister background movements and scything, clattering percussive elements all merging together into a melting pot of top-drawer drum & bass, further blurring the lines between the minimal sound and the more rolling sonics that are oh so popular at present.

OTW Premiere: Dubruvvas - Third Eye [The Juicebox]

My take on a very beautiful song by singer songwriter Ceitidh Mac. Turns out she's the sister of an ex-colleague who thought I might be interested in remixing one of her tracks. I took one listen and fell in love with her graceful tones and enigmatic prose. Here is the result. OTW Premiere: Dedman - Terri Chango [Incurzion Audio]

Katon – Receiver EP [IDR001] OUT NEXT FRIDAY

Roll in the new with the darkest, freshest beats as Identity Records brings you the next chapter from the underground. The Receiver EP by Katon has culled together four distinctive numbers that push the envelope of DnB through gravity defying subs, crackling undercurrents, and gunshot styled snares.

The title track, “Receiver,” opens up the release, bringing in squalls of bass growls backed by ominous tones. When the drop first hits, it sucks you into a black hole of vibration while the precisely crafted shuffle of the hat section sends shivers up the spine. Brough all together, this is one that grabs hold and makes you forget everything outside of it.

A surging bassline and a hard driving rhythm instantly establish “Espionage” as the powerhouse that it is. This song reveals the prowess of this producer in crafting so much with so little. With bass, drums, samples, and otherworldly atmospheres he crafts an infectious tune that outclasses any competition.  As a result, the simple dynamic shifts of the song construct a distinctive vibe you can’t find anywhere else.

“Croak” is a low-end stepper that feeds the mind while shaking the should. With a descending bassline and a steady groove, it’s impossible to resist dancing to this one. The subtle clicks and mutant sounding FX that dot the landscape further drive the mind into hyperspace, leaving you exhausted yet feverishly craving more. 
For the closing number, Katon delivers “Thief.” Molding an ingenious beat that blends seamlessly with the low end, as well as the ghostly orchestration, makes for a vibe heavy track which takes you by surprise. A craftily placed vocal sample brings the drop in, and it hits with all the force of an atomic bomb. Overall, this one showcases the exciting experimental potential this genre continues to bring to the world.
