You can sense Deni Gauthier’s spirit when you see him perform. The subtle twinkle in his eye. The understated, almost whispering voice that sings beautiful folk and rock songs about love, life, parenthood, family, and growing old.
Deni has been amusing and enthralling audiences in North America and Europe for over 15 years. Along the way, he has recorded four studio albums, including his most recent record, the ambitious He Said/She Said. A gifted songwriter and compelling storyteller, he was described by New Canadian Music as a “major talent worthy of greater exposure.”
That exposure is beginning to come. Deni has enjoyed substantial radio play on CBC and other stations, and has twice been named a semi-finalist for the prestigious International Songwriters Competition. He has performed with luminaries including Emm Gryner, Jason Collette, Barny Benthal, Linda McRae, and many others.
Whether he is performing solo or with his band, Deni delivers a dynamic emotional experience. Expect laughter and brace for tears, but most all, get ready for a memorable performance by a seasoned pro.

From the very beginning our goal has been to use all of our resources and experience to find and acquire the very finest new progressive music in the world - and - in turn - to present it back to the world in a meaningful way. I spent the better part of my teenage years in my room with my music. It wasn't really my music, it was the music I purchased with whatever money I could scrounge at the time. By the time I graduated highscool I might have owned a total of 20 or 30 albums. Everyone of them was a classic...to me. Not because they were great recordings (some of them were), but because I immersed myself in each and every one of them repeatedly. I used to fall asleep listening to them in my headphones and wake up to the scratch and pop an album makes when the music is done and the needle just rides that end part of the groove. I read the album jackets front and back, and I read every printed word on the inner sleeves, and then I'd stare at the artwork and try to imagine why it was chosen. Music has, ever since that time in my life, been more than background noise or something to dance to. I guess it's got to do with how I learned to listen to it.
I make music with my ears. I hear a progression, a sound, an idea and the process from there is very organic. One form of sonic/musical inspiration combined with the next and the next until there is a whole track. Then something else starts it all again. I envy those who can craft a song beginning to end; all mapped out start to finish and then go record it. I've not yet developed that skill set. For me every piece of music is a journey of discovery unto itself. Sometimes I find sound. Sometimes I find music. Sometimes I find a feeling. And sometimes I find myself immersed in something more than the mundane.
This compilation was assembled with these basic ideas in mind. You may find some tracks you enjoy. You may find some tracks that annoy. And maybe if you really listen you might find yourself on a sonic/musical journey of your own.
At the very least you have a CD you can use under the short leg of the coffee table to stop it from wobbling. Take what you can and enjoy.
