Huge thanks to Roel Funcken for asking me to contribute to his new project "Dear of the Yog" - out now on Touched Music. 
Suddenly I find myself in the company of old IDM heroes like Plaid, Lusine, Ochre, Kettel and Funckarma plus lots of great acts I didn't even know of!
Igloo Magazine calls the album "an impacting assortment of some of the finest, ear-shattering IDM spheres of radiant experimental electronics". 
The album was released in order to “improve the welfare of dogs and cats in Asia, resulting in better lives for both the animal and human communities, to create a society without homeless animals, and to ultimately end animal cruelty.”

Mir wurde die große Ehre und Freude zu Teil, im Auftrag des NABU und des LBV die Top-Ten zur Wahl des Vogel des Jahres vertonen zu dürfen.

Das besondere an dem Projekt: Alle Noten die ihr in den Liedern hört, stammen tatsächlich einzig und alleine von der jeweiligen Vogelart, sie sind die alleinigen Komponisten. Ich habe sie nur „übersetzt“. Dazu habe ich die Gesänge oder Rufe der Vögel zunächst in Noten umgeschrieben, bei denen ich Tonhöhe, Metrik, Anschlagsdynamik und Länge Stück für Stück aus der Vogelstimme transkribierte. Diese Noten habe ich dann in Form von MIDI-Daten an Synthesizer geschickt. Hier kam nun meine künstlerische Interpretation ins Spiel, in dem ich jeder Art unterschiedliche Sounds zugewiesen habe, um den Charakter der Vogelstimme noch mehr zu unterstreichen und um Gedankengänge anzuregen. So weisen melancholische Klänge auf den Bedrohungsgrad mancher Arten hin, wie es etwa beim Kiebitz oder dem Goldregenpfeifer der Fall ist. Das lustvolle, ewige Lied der Feldlerche reisst abrupt ab: Wir Menschen berauben ihnen ihr letztes Stückchen Heimat. Andere Arten wie Amsel, Rotkehlchen, Rauchschwalbe oder Haussperling wurden freudig interpretiert. Und auch in dem rollenden Gurren der Strassentaube, steckt so viel Schönheit. Befreit man es von dem anthropogenen Großstadtlärm und fügt eine in Klavierklänge übersetzte Ebene hinzu, werden wir uns plötzlich ihrem edlen Charakter gewahr. Mehr Infos: www.NABU.de/synthibirds
