Aedi Records is a collective record label that unites over 250 electronic music producers and enthusiasts—founded by Michel Iseneld, father of Hypnus Records.

Together we have shaped every aspect of the imprint during a systematic process of democratic discussions, idea submissions and votes.

We learn and explore the fields of electronic music production collectively. By sharing our minds in an inclusive environment, we grow both as individuals and a group simultaneously.

This compilation contains the first musical harvest of our creative quest, featuring eight tracks made by 14 producers collaborating for the first time.

We have a lot more in store and feel excited to explore this new way of collectively learning and sharing music beyond the traditional record label format.

AEDI001

Synergy is a compilation made by 23 producers uniting for the first time through their separate passions.

Nearly 50 producers were asked what specific aspect they enjoyed the most in music production. Some aligned with beat-making; others preferred to make atmospheres, synthesis experimentation, field recording, or mixing.

Michel Iseneld grouped them into 15 teams of three, where each participant focused only on their area of passion.

These teams were then paired with five Aedi members whose passion was mixing. These mixing enthusiasts then brought their expertise into the creative process, bringing all the elements together.

Out of the resulting 15 tracks, the community of over 250 producers chose seven of them through a democratic vote.

Synergy is a statement that encourages music creatives to think differently, collaborate, and always remember that creativity should be fun.

Synergy

Embryos were created as a creative exercise by 37 producers, using samples provided by Hypnus' mastering engineer Mattias Fridell.

The tracks for the final release were picked by our collective of 260+ producers who voted them to 12 favorites that are now mastered and assembled.

This mix includes all contributions in the production challenge, while the curated 12 are available at Bandcamp.

Hive

Lichen was made during a creative challenge in December 2022.

32 producers were assigned random partners to practice communication while getting a chance to work with new people within the Aedi community.

13 tracks were submitted and voted to four favourites by the community. The release title and artwork were made collectively, and all the 100s of Aedis were free to participate.

Nectar is the second Aedi release based on the community's open demo submissions. During these occasional events, anyone may submit one track to a poll where all submissions are shared in a playlist without the artist's name so that everyone on the label may listen and vote without bias.

Nectar

Miso resulted from a production challenge where the ~140 Aedi community members were invited to make a track flavoured by the 5/4 time signature.

All submissions were gathered in a playlist, each track made anonymous, and paired with a poll in which everyone's vote had equal weight. We gathered suggestions and voted again on how many tracks, what artwork and title to give the release.

Locust

Nur was created through a creative exercise where the over 140 producers of Aedi were invited to create an ambient track in pairs of their choosing. The challenge aimed to encourage the community members to explore the value of contacting people online and creating something together.

All submissions were gathered in an anonymous playlist and voted on by everyone. The track with the most votes received a remix by Luigi Tozzi as a prize.

Then, another step was revealed, where the winning contributors were asked to make a stereo version of their track. This way, we explored and learned from both limitations and possibilities.
