"Canadian multi-talent juSt b returns to UK imprint Configurations of Self, following her recent Bedrock EP, for her 3rd collaboration with Leeds-based producer & label head, Alexander Church, welcoming back James Welsh & Italian producer Vincenzo on remix duties.
With previous support from some of the underground’s finest, including John Digweed, Nick Warren, Jamie Stevens, Animal Trainer, Gai Barone, and BBC’s Erol Alkan & Tom Ravenscroft, the innovative, psychology-inspired label & its experimental offshoot, Life Scripts, has seen consistent exceptional output in just a few years. For the Configurations series, that translates now to the 16th EP since its inception in October 2019.
juSt b again demonstrates her deep-thinking lyrical prowess with a new pair of elegantly crafted mindful narratives, themed around renowned Canadian Transactional Psychologist, Eric Berne, fused with Church’s signature rolling melodies. The first original, ‘Ego States’, begins by probing the depths of our most basic social interactions with the question ‘what’s really going on’ within the parent-adult-child dynamic & the often negative lifelong behaviours resulting from confusion & shifting of these roles.
James Welsh, a frequent studio partner & regular on the label, transforms the six minutes into a bold futuristic dance cut, boasting an acidy electro bass riff and sultry vox chop which adds a layer of warmth & moodiness to this edgy rework.
Next up, ‘Games People Play’ and its jabbing tribalesque kick/snare combo commence a more sinister portrayal of the various manipulative mind & power games we all play in our daily relationships. An eerie hypnotic synth line twists its way beyond the drop, creating a more nebulous atmosphere, perfect for the darkest of dingy dance floors.
Rounding out the 4-tracker, Berlin’s Vincenzo once again adds his classic soulful swing, giving the ominous original a lighter, playful bassline & airy daytime feel, while preserving juSt b’s vocal impact.
Configurations 16 represents another intellectual & provocative offering of standout productions from four high calibre artists."

Ascendent French DJ/producer Rafael Cerato steps up for his Watergate label debut, with added spice from Israel’s Niv Ast.

Cerato is respected for his ability to traverse the breadth of progressive house and techno with equal skill. He’s dropped silky rollers on labels including Diynamic and Stil Vor Talent, alongside tougher fare on Suara and Systematic Recordings, where he released the excellent ‘Requiem’ album in 2020.

His ‘Vocalizer’ EP presents a trio of chugging, high energy cuts. The title track is straight up peak-time business, marked by a dramatic chord sequence, ethereal pads and crisp drums. Tel Aviv producer Niv Ast joins Cerato for the EP’s next two tracks, bringing his distinct energy to the productions. ‘Sunny Glaze’ is an fiery cut, led by Niv’s powerful vocal, a racey synth line and a full-bodied bassline. ‘On My Knees’ ramps up the energy to eleven, a superb slice of acoustic-inflected, indie prog, built around Niv’s soaring vox and ecstatic percussive elements.

Tadej Jaki - Ksenos [Tibetania]

3rd Avenue proudly presents Sensitive Lights, a collaboration between Argentinean producers Kirwan and Lucas Ramos, featuring the emotive vocals of fellow countryman Juan Fernandez. The project highlights the deep melodic sensibilities that have become synonymous with the label, while offering a variety of interpretations that expand its reach even further.

The original mix and instrumental version showcase the seamless synergy between Kirwan, Lucas Ramos, and Juan Fernandez, blending hypnotic grooves with heartfelt vocal lines. To complement these, an impressive international remix roster steps in: Donny Carr and Taylan, both hailing from the USA, provide their own atmospheric reworks, each capturing unique shades of the track's emotional core.
