Exclusive: DC Salas - The Weight Of Uncertainty (I:Cube Remix)

With EPs on Correspondant, Live At Robert Johnson or his own label Biologic Records, DC Salas has built up quite an impressive back-catalogue over the past two years and the Brussel-based artist does not seem to slow down. His latest four tracker, The Weight Of Uncertainty, will be released on long-standing British label Futureboogie and keeps up the prosperous path. Provided with three original tracks the EP also comes with a remix from legendary French producer Nicolas Chaix better known under his artist moniker I:Cube or as part versatile producer duo Château Flight, for the title track. Legenary because I:Cube has been responsible for one of the electronic music scene's most important tracks, namly Disco Cubism, and remixed Daft Punk's Around the World. Furthermore, the Parisian has worked with iconic artists such as Joakim, Prins Thomas, Tornado Wallace, Vermont – just to name a few – over his more than two decades lasting career and to pinpoint it: I:Cube has dedicated himself and his passion to music, and the latter has found a source to trigger emotions through his work. For his rework of DC Salas' The Weight Of Uncertainty Nicolas kept the bleepy chords from the original version but puts them into a different sound-surrounding as the pads that accompany the original elements create a rather ambient vibe.. However, if one expected an ambient track is proven wrong because the I:Cube remix is still dancefloor-oriented as it unfolds its hypnotical-touch with a repetitive vocal that seems to echo in the foggy-pads and lure the dancers and listeners at the same time into the track's, into I:Cube's cosmos.

Catz 'n Dogz welcome old friend and kindred spirit Alvaro Cabana to the Pets family with this powerful quartet of electric bulldozers. Building on the momentum he's been enjoying on his own Rotten City label, here we find the Spanish DJ in overdrive with three originals and one version.

'Ritmo Espiral' starts and ends the piece. Slapping with electroid spikiness and a pushed groove that thumps like it's the mid 2000s all over again, there's a timelessness here to both the original and the dub mix that bubble over with dark funk and nod in all directions from Black Strobe to Tiefschwarz.

They're joined by two more big time bruisers: 'Los Muertos Misteriosos' continues the electro theme with waves and layers of textures crashing down over a relentless drum/sub swagger while 'Barrio Solar' revels and writhes in more of Alvaro's groovecraft. Tight guitars, shimming top notes and a breakdown that will send you into space. Strap in tight, we'll see you on the other side.

Berlin-based label AEON is celebrating its 50th release with a unique Compilation called ‘VERSUS’.  This EP features seven very special collaborations from cutting-edge artists such as Bawrut & Benjamin Fröhlich, Panthera Krause & Peter Invasion, Alex Niggemann & Speaking Minds, Kimshies & Futuristant, Darlyn Vlys & Amarcord, Biesmans & Jepe and Rina & Uriah Klapter. Label boss Alex Niggemann explains: “The idea was to get some of the core artists together, setting up collaborations that might would never have happened elsewhere and will forever stay as their first and exclusive work together.“ 

„Disco Tedesco“ is certainly a classic in the making. Alex Niggemann & Speaking Minds - two of the founding members of AEON - kick off with a very recognizable Disco vibe with their very first collaborating, reminding on the early hours of house music. A driving & funky bassline and its very recognizable hook, will put immediately a satisfying grin on your face, while making this tune stuck in your ears after the first listen.
Bawrut, who’s previously released on Life & Death and Permanent Vacation co-founder Benjamin Fröhlich bring a bit of a darker tune with subtle hints of breakbeat & acid to this EP, which is lightened up midway by a female vocal sample. The dark electro inspired sequencer bring you in a trance like state. „Kirmes“ is a track that will both perform well during peak time and afterhour sets.
Panthera Krause & Peter Invasion, who run the Leipzig based label Riotvan together, surprise with a breakbeat start of their first-ever collaboration as musicians… and that on AEON!
„Fiesta Hunuku“ has an industrial vibe, with sharp sounds and driving drum rhythm. Tension rises throughout and continues to build up this fusion of electro and Indie Dance, all leading up to an eccentric drop. 
„My Body Is Burning“ by the French duo Kimshies & mysterious Italian producer Futuristant instantly kicks off a club vibe. A female voice shouts: “My heart is aching…!“ Only to be joined by a dark vocoded voice later. It reminds us of an 80s science fiction movie and is surly the peak time bomb from this release. 
French DJ/Producer Darlyn Vlys & young Italian talent Amarcord created a modern sounding Proto-house banger, with a very recognizable melody and a female vocal throughout. With its groovy vocal stabs, long sweeping synths, and effected soundscape drums „ Talking Modern“ immediately feels „familiar“. 
Jepe, who recently released his debut EP on AEON and Biesmans, who’s part of the team for a while, bring a more melodic touch with their indie dance inspired tune „ Fashionably Late“. Lots of analogue synths build melodic layers to achieve a very danceable tune with an 80s reminiscent tone. 
The final collaboration of this EP comes from Rina & Uriah Klapter. Two talented musicians from the Tel Aviv scene. The track lives up to its name ‘Acid in 1986’, with its retro acid vibe, pumping „off-bassline“ and a male vocal sample to accompany this groovy after hour tune.

Daydream the new EP by japanese artist Oowets on DSRPTV Rec (@dsrptv rec) sews his low-fi beats background with consistent grooves - sometimes more percussive, sometimes deeper - in a soundscape that resembles a sunny garden. The work is filled with analog rhythms that contrast with the digital melody. In the three original tracks, Oowets offers us a generous invitation: a walk in his oneiric universe, which starts paced and optimistic, plunging into introspection. The two remixes, one signed by Vermelho (ODD) and the other by DSRPTV's crew, bet on the dancefloor mood, without departing from the delicate aspect that permeates the EP and that has become the label's brand.
