Letting his superb selections and finely honed skills behind the decks do the talking for him, Unai Trotti emerged as one of our favourite DJs and curators in recent years. With the recent launch of two new Cartulis sub-labels, we caught up with Trotti to get the lowdown on his recent projects, playing in front of a crowd again and things to come, and he’s been so kind as to share with us, the recording of a set he played at Mutabor in Moscow, featuring 3.5 hours of brilliant transitions, pulsating tech groovers, proggy house and other ‘90s oriented goodness.

IDEA TRANSMISSION 002: OCTOBO

We are happy to welcome another newcomer to our podcast series, Mariiin (@mariiinmusic)

She is a London based dj and producer, resident for Pleasure Club. She plays regularly in Fabric London and recently for some of the most interesting festivals such as Houghton and Gottwood.

This recording is part of her set at Headroom Festival, which includes different shades of electronic music showcasing the variety of her music taste.

Quest is one of those new school selectors who have taken the art of crate digging to an all-new level. Italian-born, Berlin-based but having spent time in London working at the legendary Vinyl Pimp, he has long been mining the depths of everything from UKG to outré techno, Italian hip hop to long-lost house. Importantly, he uses those sounds to tell his own stories, often with an air of mystery and intrigue that plays out like an adventure into the unknown. 

Many mixes follow a traditional arc of increasing energy levels but in this week's podcast, Quest plays with those expectations to build up and then pull back, threading together minimal rhythms then raw and crunchy wave sounds. Twisted electronics lead into celestial acid and the smooth and seductive sits next to the dark and edgy. It's a low-key, low-lit selection that draws from mutant strains of house, techno and electro that are both futurist and dystopian. Quest might be his moniker, but it is also a perfect description of his mission.

The next ‘clean drop’ podcast is from Nuggets. 

He was born in the Netherlands. He got interested in electronic music at a young age, after which he became an active clubber and started digging for vinyls. Nuggets started picking up gigs in and around Amsterdam. At first, DJing was a hobby for him, but when COVID started, he looked at it from a different angle, started a channel, and received a lot of love, support, and recognition from around the world.
