[PIRANHA SIBERIA DUB] proudly presents its 86th release — Mountain Altai VA: Oroktoysky Bridge. Dub Techno Star Collection, Vol. 4

Oroktoysky Bridge — a suspended thread above the roaring Katun, hanging on cables like strings stretched between sky and earth. It is often called the gateway to the heart of Altai. Here, above the thunderous waters, one feels suspended between two worlds — one where the river’s voice never fades, and another where time itself slows down. The sound of the river becomes a low, trembling hum you can feel in your chest. And beneath this bridge lies the deepest point of the Katun — more than seventy meters down into a hidden abyss. This is a place of power, where earth and water converge in tension, and a person stands literally between heaven and the depths.

Vol. 4 of Mountain Altai VA is dedicated to this bridge — a crossing, a symbol of courage, a point where shores, states, and dimensions meet. Nine tracks sound like legends heard in passing across this suspended path.

This part of the grand collection, created in celebration of the third anniversary of [PIRANHA SIBERIA DUB], takes the listener further into Altai — to a place where a bridge is not just a road but a state of being, a passage between noise and silence, fear and awe, sound and light. Here, dub techno is no longer just music — it becomes the very space between steps, the vibration of metal, the echo below, the reflection of the sky in the water. It is the sound of balance — recorded at altitude, above the river, above time itself.

"Astrometric Effect" is the third release from Berlin label Intercontinental Dance Organization, better known as IDO. The release sees the label’s founder Valentino Mora collaborating for the first time with experimental Japanese musician Yoshitake EXPE. Astrometric Effect and Trans Format Eurotica are both products of a live experimentation session in Berlin. Mora provides his signature groovy, tribal percussions and deep sub bass and EXPE creates dreamy ambient drones using an electric guitar with a case full of effects that completely reimagines the sound of the guitar. Astrometric Effect is deep, tribal, hypnotic house, where the organic percussions and atmospheres are perfectly offset against delicate touches of robotic synth sounds. In Trans Format Eurotica, Mora’s spacey acid bassline paired with EXPE’s dreamy drone create a liquid effect. EXPE adds a “LFO” rhythmic sound using the electric guitar with effects as a percussive instrument. The final track on the EP, Trans Format Eurotica (Underwater Rephase), is a dub version offered by Mora, which is sure to be a club favourite.

We've reached the 10th installment on Indigo aera's AEX series. A collection of hand-stamped white labels raised from friendship and family, a collection of like-minded artists having fun in their shared studio spaces in Amsterdam and around.

On the 10th disc it's another collection of familiar faces. ESHU's Tetelepta is up first with his dusty deep-house floater followed by De Lichting affiliate Human Space Machine jamming his way through melancholic melodies. Nathan Surreal makes his debut on AEX, with recent outings on Analogue Solutions and Biologic Recordings he here brings his bright and powerful grooves to a place that feels like home right in the middle of his De Lichting friends. On the b-side Kaap shows his love for traditional dub-techno once more with a stretched out and carefully crafted dub excursion. A wonky beat trip by Denote wraps things up on this versatile and sparkling slab of vinyl.

On his third and album, Rainbow Doll, the New Jersey house mystic Joey Anderson speaks to us. Of course, like everything Anderson does, the message is encoded. On tracks like "Beside Me" and "Cindy," his voice rings out in dream incantations—on the latter, he repeats a Mark Hollis-like mantra over a perfect, minimalist house loop while the former sounds like the late, great Ron Hardy taking the razor-and-tape to Ike Yard.

It's his third record for the Berlin-based label Avenue 66, and graciously illuminates the dream logic introduced on his debut for the imprint, the 2013 leftfield classic "Above The Cherry Moon." While Rainbow Doll satisfies those outre impulses, the album's core comprises what are perhaps Anderson's most indelible dance tracks to date, like "Bounce With It," a jacking anthem which sees him at mission control, sending widescreen synth lines soaring through the atmosphere.

With the aforementioned vocals punctuating five of the eight tracks, Rainbow Doll is Anderson's most personal work to date. It's his first album in four years, but also his shortest, most concise full-length. Even with a more direct approach, the elusive, dreamlike quality which has made his work so intriguing remains intact. He speaks of dreams throughout the record, even as his uncanny methodology comes into focus. More than ever before, we understand the materials Anderson uses to construct his Escher-like tracks. We hear his fingers on the keys, the sturdy east coast house beats he learned to dance to. The dreams have become lucid. As he puts it deep in the album, they "seem so real.”

After launching their own De Stijl label last year, Artefakt are back on Delsin with Icarus, a sparkling new four track outing. The Dutch live-act and DJ duo formed by Robin Koek and Nick Lapien put out their Kinship LP on the label in 2017, picked up real acclaim for their intricate sound design and deep yet hard hitting grooves. Always serving up atmospheric music that is artful and filled with rich detail, they continued on their own path once again here.

Starting with the smooth and hypnotic, stripped back grooves from Icarus. Followed by the cavernous and immersive ambient trip Ganzfeld Effect. The darker Vapour is still heady and meticulously crafted with deft little details, a rich sound field and supple techno drums getting you in the zone. Delphic then offers crisp breakbeats, dubby drums and electrically charged synths that are physical but emotional. It's another perfect fusion of light and dark, thoughtful and physical techno from this ever impressive pair.

Futurepast, The Belgian imprint currently operating from Berlin, is set to release a new EP from Brussels-based Kato De Vidts. De Vidts' 'New Earth' EP inaugurates a new imprint's series called 'Alternative Earth' which encourages the listener to drop out of the race, observe the unnoticed details, and cherish what would otherwise stay unseen.

'New Earth' EP is a beautiful package of cinematic, atmospheric electronica that is driven by percussive grooves. It's a reminisce of early '00 UK electronica and dub techno. 

Our pick for today, 'Kon' embraces a bass leaning aesthetic courtesy of bumpy, broken drums, metallic chimes, menacing bass tones, and De Vidts signature looming atmospheric tension.

'New Earth' EP is coming out on July 28th via Futurepast.
