For those that didn't catch the broadcast, this is a live recording of myself and Paul Woolford playing back to back for BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix 20th Anniversary Celebration in December 2013. This was at the peak of the night in the enormous main room, so the mix is representative of that. In other words, its quite banging!

We don’t often invite people to run the FACT Mix gauntlet more than once – but if anyone gets to bend the rules, it’s Klock.

The Berlin titan last graced these parts back in 2009, filing a muscular FACT Mix entirely in keeping with his reputation as Berghain’s bosher-in-chief. The last five years have seen him consolidate his reputation as a standard bearer of refined, take-no-prisoners techno; his eight-hour-plus sets continue to shake Berghain’s foundations, and, although his output has slowed substantially, he’s still found time to knock out the occasional release on Ostgut Ton. His Klockworks label continues to tick along, too - new releases from fellow FACT mixer Trevino and Etapp Kyle are imminent, plus, if a forthcoming stint of “studio time” comes good, potentially more new music from Klock himself.

Those expecting pulverising 4×4 might be surprised by Klock’s sophomore FACT mix – a “deeper, dreamy” collection, bookended by two vintage ambient tracks and shot through with wonder. Unreleased Klockworks material features, as do cuts from the likes of Function, Ben Sims, Surgeon, Orgue Electronique and Lucy. The mix is a studio-recorded affair – something Klock sees as a very different kettle of fish to playing out: “Club mixes are obviously more spontaneous and capture the vibe of a specific night, while working in the studio offers other possibilities like re-editing tracks and layering tunes more precisely, which I’ve done a lot of that here.” Set your watches…

Release notes:

Three in a row... Stephen Brown's up for his third Indigo release already. We just can't get enough of his music and we won't hide our deep respect for the man from Scotland. Already in the game for more than 20 years, he always achieves a particular and distinctive sense of grooviness, funk and soul in his music that nobody else ever can.

The fact that a lot of DJs still play Stephen's tracks from 20 years ago underline how timeless his music is. In contrary to Stephen's legendary status we asked a 'youngster' for the remix. Antigone is our favourite new rising star from the Parisian techno movement, and after his own EP on Indigo last year, it was just about time for him to return to the Indigo area imprint.

The result is three tracks from Brown that are variously fulsome and funky, skipping yet seriously weighty and tripped out and intergalactic, whilst the Antigone remix is full of nerve jangling texture and drum driven brut force.

Stephen Brown - Invisible Light EP (Antigone Remix) // [AERA014]

Yaleesa Hall has released solo tracks and remixes on the Will & Ink label before now, and here returns with four new cuts on the Perrin EP. The unknown producer turned plenty of heads with its first full outing, and the stripped back but succulent sounds on offer here will surely do the same again. 

The first cut is 'First Perrin', which has massive rubber kick drums rolling beneath little flecks of static and raw metal texture. Synths groan under the weight of the drums and overall the track makes for a perfect warehouse or basement banger. 'Second Perrin' is no less subtle. Once again it has gigantic kick drums, but this time they are more rocking and punchy, and have icy hi hats riding long side them. Deep, droning bass sounds and clever use of filters add a sense of scale to the track and it cannot fail to suck you in as a result. 

'Third Perrin' is another, organic, humid and rather oppressive affair driven by perfectly sculpted kick drums. They hit hard as itchy hi hats and dehumanised vocal sounds try to keep up but instead get sucked under by the groove. Lastly, 'Fourth Perrin' has a wonky synth line riding up and down, slicing into the barrelling kick drums as they cut in and out. 

This is expertly hypnotic, over sized and cavernous techno that will suck you in, sweep you up and trap you in a perfect trance.
