"Vulgar" [Album]

A remarkable release for VūMantra Records, “Vū - Vulgar” marks the number 50th on the catalog of the label.
Those 7 tracks, composed in 2021 by Vū, were meant to be played in a forest during a summer ritual gathering.
The tracks were made quickly and rawly, collecting old samples from previous trips in Morocco and the Mediterranean coasts, and recordings of Lo-fi percussions, voices and instruments played by Vū himself in studio.
With this material Vū was deliberately searching for a Lo-Fi sound and leave the mix and composition simple, to let the atmospheres and moods created by those samples to speak for themselves.
Among the recordings Vū utilised also some from the singer of “Dead Space Chamber Music” Ellen Southern, which were recorded in few abandoned and hunted places in England, plus few sounds from street musicians in Morocco. The title of the album is taken for its sound not for its meaning, and recalls the first album of the other music project of Vince Gagliardi , The Nent - “Vulner” , underlining a vague distorted reflection of the 2 artworks, like in a old broken mirror.

Vince Gagliardi (a.k.a. Vū) is a 3D artist and music producer of futuristic shamanic electronic music from Berlin. He is also the founder of the label “Vumantra Records”, artistic director of the collective “Modern Bön” and creator of the audiovisual project “The Nent” (Cyclic Law), well-known for its impactful A∖V live performances.

His performances focus on an immersive experience creating endarkening rhythms and low frequencies. Drum machines clash against the voice and percussion that he plays live in order to keep the focus on the moment, as well as for the shamanic vibes of the crowd. Some of Vū’s tracks have already been released also on the Pact Infernal’s label "Altar", Borders of Known (GE), Dark Alchemy (UK), Voidance (DE), Elektro Tribe (DE) Furanum Records (DE) Area Z (FR), and more.

He is currently collaborating with plenty of artists from the dub/techno/ritual/industrial scene, to dig into the meditative states of the lower frequencies and feed the catalog of his label VūMantra records.

Dirty Epic welcomes aboard @ireenamnes for its seventy-eighth episode of Amplify Series.

Ireen Amnes is a producer, DJ and founder of the label and event series Under My Feet. Rooted in industrial - noise and experimental, her live hardware and DJ sets are moody and unpredictable, often exploring different mixtures of intensity.

Based in Berlin, Ireen's musical odyssey commenced as a singer and instrumentalist in metal bands, eventually weaving her signature style into the world of electronic music. 

Within her own productions, Ireen's music transcends with distorted aesthetics, melancholic atmospherics, and deconstructed rhythms, evident in recent works such as a collaboration with Drew McDowell of Coil; her latest EP on Tresor Records; the collaborative EP  'Unravelling' alongside Kamikaze Space Programme and the new live project with Infinity Division fka Minimal Violence ’s.a.t.i.n.’.
Her first full-length LP 'In The Land Of Silence,' released in 2020 through Sonic Groove Experiments, received critical acclaim, with reviewers praising the emotional depth conveyed through moving melodies and rumbling drones.

Ireen’s live shows have seen her play venues like Berghain, Funkhaus, Iklectik, Macao, and Kraftwerk. As a DJ, she has performed in iconic spaces such as Tresor, Basement, Warehouse Elementenstraat, Fold, and countless other European clubs and DIY parties.
She frequently shares stages with esteemed artists like Drew McDowell, Hiro Kone, Phase Fatale, Alessandro Adriani, and Chloe Lula, crafting sets that captivate audiences with an unpredictable and eclectic journey through the intricate realms of electro, wave, industrial, techno, and experimental music.

Regardless of the genre Amnes’ music does (or doesn’t) fit into, its intense dynamism, nuance, and emotive power represent the expressions of a deeply complex and passionate artist.

"City Diaries" is a refection on our city lives, a daily imaginary journey that invites us to
introspection. Te world of sound that surrounds us is experienced in a unique way by
each and every one of us, yet we all share it.
Each stroll is unique, each moment unique.
It's up to us to make these situations our own, to build our own dream cosmology.
Considering the creative power of what surrounds us as a tool for inner construction, as
poetry, is a response to our materialistic lives and can help us better apprehend the
modern world.
True to Gaston Bachelard, the aim here is to give free rein to daydreaming, while at the
same time giving full artistic expression to the noise of our times, an essential concept
developed by Luigi Russolo.
City Diaries was composed from sounds collected at night in my city (Chalon sur
Saône), which gave rise to an imaginary vocabulary for this acousmatic piece.
Our sound context is a refection of our times, and it's up to us to seize it and, like
modern alchemists, appropriate one of the last things that is free - noise - and transform
it into a work of art. Fortunately, it's one of the last things we have free access to.

cette pièce acousmatique.
Notre contexte sonore est le refet de notre époque, à nous de nous en emparer pour, tels
des alchimistes modernes, s'approprier une des dernières choses qui soit gratuite -le
bruit- et le transformer en oeuvre artistique. C'est heureusement une des dernière chose
qui soit nous accessible librement.

Description:
My son was driving on the Ruapuna (official title "Euromarque Motorsport Park") race way on a track day, so I went along to watch and make some field recordings. Some raucous sounds. I made some 22 field recordings, taking eight of them into my granular synthesiser, Granie to mess with the sounds, then improvise on top with my Soma Lyra 8 analogue synthesiser. 


Granie replayed portions of the field recordings in a stereo cloud of twelve sound grains, grain sweep frequency, length, start position were controlled through a looped recording of parameter changes. As a live performance, I brought the eight granular voices in and out (sound gate ON|OFF), adjusted the delay+feedback network live and at the same time played the Soma Lyra 8 synthesiser, recording all this to the master audio recorder on Granie.

Ruapuna Track Day

Justin K Broadrick (JK Flesh) needs little introduction for most tuning into this Live PA mix. However, for the uninformed some words must be said for the acclaimed and accomplished polymath. Justin is a founding member of Godflesh, a band created in the late 1980s and one of the first of its kind to combine genres such as industrial music and extreme metal. Other projects of Justin include Jesu / Sun Kil Moon, Techno Animal and JK Flesh. As JK Flesh, he has released on heavyweight labels such as Hospital Productions, Electric Deluxe and Downwards. 
This live mix was created through “machines and stems, no overdubs no post processing – raw and essentially improvised.” The Tempest drum machine from Dave Smith, Elektrons Analog Keys and Ableton were key elements in process of this mix’s creation. The "Machines & Stems live mix" from JK Flesh really speaks for itself and we are very grateful to be able to share with everyone who is tuning into the Nightshade podcast series!
