Highlife was the music of the people. It brought everyone together, from the rich to the poor. Highlife became increasingly popular in Ghana and spread to other parts of West Africa. In the 1950s and 60s, the genre transformed, with the introduction of electric guitars and keyboards.

The new instruments gave Highlife a more modern sound. It became more danceable and accessible to younger audiences."

Highlife's popularity continued to grow, and it became a symbol of Ghanaian identity and culture. However, the genre also faced criticism from some who saw it as promoting Western values over traditional African culture.

Highlife was a reflection of our culture, but it also brought in new influences. Some people didn't like that.

Despite this, Highlife remained an important part of Ghanaian culture, and its influence can be heard in many contemporary genres, from Afrobeats to hip-life.
