El Remolon is back.  Digital cumbia pioneer, long time member of the Buenos Aires based genre bending ZZK crew, dance floor instigator, experimental tropical alchemist.  On his 5th release, Selva is an evolution of both his sound and the Latin American digital scene as a whole.

Selva is an album that is as mature as it is playful.  The songs range from the emotive cumbia soundscapes to dance floor bangers.  Dipping into obscure Quechua sung digital folk, playful songwriting and collaborations across the board, Selva shows the depth of El Remolon’s musical arsenal.  Calling on a cast of who's who in the emerging alt-latino scene, from the Peruvian masked neo-cumbieros Dengue Dengue Dengue, to Kumbia Queers front woman and Mexican multi-faceted Ali Gua Gua to Argentina's current cumbia/dancehall/hip hop starlet, Miss Bolivia.   El Remolon even gets on the mic for a couple tracks himself, showing a new side to his many talents.  Incorporating slide guitars, Rhodes pianos, Peruvian shamanic ritual chants and a whole lot of bass, this is El Remolon's most intricate and well rounded work to date.

El Remolon aka Andres Schteingart has toured extensively throughout the Americas and Europe, bringing his signature sound to dancefloors and festivals in more than 40 cities, from Austin’s SXSW to Copenhagen’s Distortion Festival, to Bogota’s Festival Centro.  He’s collaborated with Pablo Lescano from the pioneering cumbia villera band Damas Gratis, Li Saumet from Colombia’s red hot Bomba Estereo, Ale Sergi from the gigantic Argentine pop band Miranda and even Wendy Sulca, Peru’s adolescent YouTube sensation.

On Selva El Remolon imagines a world where all religions exist under one, where borders dissolve and cultures are united in the search for wisdom, hedonism and peace.

We are all massive fans of these guys; they make such exciting choices in their music and we thought this particular track, with the Miley sample, would sound really interesting interpreted by a female voice. Blythe laid down a vocal which seemed to work first take - everything followed that :) we just hope they like it!

The Jaynetts - Who Stole The Cookie From The Cookie Jar (ALL IN/1965)

The great singer, activist and soul sister Sandra Izsadore is back in the mix. She graced the international music stage on 1976's 'Upside Down' and has worked with  legendary artists Fela, Osibisa, Ginger Baker and many more. She influenced Fela to write about and focus on cultural matters of Africa, the Afro-Diaspora and human rights. She helped Fela conceive of Afro-Beat in 1969 in Los Angeles. Pleasuremaker wrote this song channeling Fela Kuti, Sandra and the history that tied this moment together as we face the most blatant disregard for human lives, human rights and for the struggle all people of color and poor and working class folks face all around the world each day. A new day is dawning, we must recognize where we have been and where we are at to ever truly make a brighter world.
This track highlights what is happening on earth right now in 2015 and has been an ongoing struggle for justice world wide.

Mayer Hawthorne - The Walk

From the Parada 88 induced riot in a Tokyo record store to the glorious English eccentricity of Weatherall remixing Harvey Bassett, this compilation really shows International Feel’s maverick spirit and their desire to tread a different path to the sausage waveforms, ringtone music or ‘let’s do 100 white labels with just a badly designed hand stamped logo and be really cool’ ethos of many of their brethren (although they tried that too !)

The two CD’s showcase their true Balearic-ism (Mmmm that’s not really a word is it), with Disk 1 (almost) revealing some Top of the Pops vocal moments and Disk 2 taking a deeper, more Epic path (well, apart from the aforementioned Weatherall remix of Locussolus), but overall, it leaves you feeling that something (whatever that may be) worthwhile has actually happened deep down in Uruguay over the past 3 years and this CD is, as label owner Mark B says, the perfect time capsule of International Feel’s original and ongoing desire to create a music & design legacy of lasting quality (or as Partridge once said....cult viewing figures).

Another one of our super limited white labels of acid disco Italo madness.  Moved a cast of dancefloor 1000’s anywhere and everywhere and now on discogs for silly money.

7. Love's a Dancer - Flights of Fancy 
Late 70’s electro Balearic boogey mixed with the vibe of McCartney’s ‘Live & Let Die’.  Popular with Terje, Soulclap, Balearic Mike and on.

8. (I am a) Series of Strange Loops- Hungry Ghost
Balearic Kraut Afro Rock.  No-one but Mr Fritto and Mr Weaver makes music like this and luckily (for them) everyone from Francois K to Weatherall and Giles Peterson seems to love it.  

9. Morgengruss III - IFEEL Studio
Our reworking of the Popul Vuh track from Herzog’s ‘Aguirre, the Wrath of God’, with more than a little help from Richard Hawley’s studio band.

'Crazy' is the first single off of the upcoming full length album by San Francisco's Afrolicious. This disco banger is infused with Afro guitars, poly-rhythmic Latin percussion, fierce horn stabs and the soulful vocals of Trinidad and Tobago's Fresh is Life. 'Crazy' is a timeless dance floor anthem that feels like it could have been played at David Mancuso's Loft parties, Larry Levans Paradise Garage club, in a Lagos nightclub in the late '70's or in any contemporary club in London, New York or Tokyo. Musically composed by Pleasuremaker (who plays bass, guitars, keyboards and drum programming) and with lyrics written by Fresh is Life 'Crazy' is the culmination of the Afrolicious aesthetic: great melodies, funky rhythms, universal lyrics and good vibes. 'Crazy' will be making dance floors go crazy for a long time to come, and with remixes by the legendary Jamaican Dub producer Scientist coming out later this year the craziness is unlikely to end anytime soon.

Afrolicious Bio -

Afrolicious, the live/electronic collective based in the San Francisco Bay Area started out not as a band but as a club night at the famed Elbo Room in The Mission District in 2007.  The format of Afrolicious party was very open and included the DJs spinning the latest soulful dance music including Afro-House, broken beat, modern funk and disco alongside classics and re-edits and remixes of their favorite Afrobeat, Salsa, and Brazilian funk alongside live percussionists and guest MCs and musicians. Eventually morphing into a live band led by the production and arrangement skills of Pleasuremaker, many dancers, DJs and producers began to take notice of their unique sound.  

Since the release of their first two EPs which were produced by Rob Garza of Thievery Corporation, the reputation of the band and founding DJs Pleasuremaker and Señor Oz have grown and they have performed everywhere from Red Rocks, Burning Man, Cielo and the Greek Theatre in Berkeley. "We never planned on becoming a live band, but like everything else about Afrolicious it happened organically," says Oz. "When we started the party, it was truly what we thought the Mission was about. It wasn't exclusive and it wasn't exclusionary, it was open to everyone. The youngest person in our collective is the rising soul singer Ziek McCarter who started with us at 19. Our oldest member is Baba Duru, who moved to SF in 1970 and toured with Stevie Wonder. Our vocalist is from Trinidad and our drummer is from Brazil. We all congregated in SF over our love of the universal groove. There are rhythms that connect all dance music from the beginning of time to the present day and we believed we could transmit them."  

In 2013 they released their debut full-length album, California Dreaming on their own label, Afrolicious Music. IN 2014 they assembled some of the finest DJs and producers from around the world to remix their debut album. California Dreaming Remixed features remixes from Jamaican dub legend Scientist, Rob Garza from Thievery Corporation, Peruvian electronic live hybrid Novalima, Brazilian nu-disco producer Trotter, Australia’s Omegaman, Miami’s Stereo 77 and the Bay Area’s DJ Smash, J Boogie, Izzy Wise and Antonio Guedes.



  Afrolicious is also loosely affiliated with a worldwide group of DJs, producers, bands, and labels who produce contemporary soulful dance music inspired by sounds of the African diaspora, including Antibalas, Chico Mann, Nickodemus, DJ Smash, Wonderwheel Recordings, Subsuelo, and Cumba Mela.

For 8 years Afrolicious brought out an amazing crowd every week to an experience many compare to church in the sense of a weekly gathering for spiritual purposes.
Afrolicious continues to inspire and push the boundaries of music productions, events, and community. They are set to release a number of new releases in 2015. There are finished projects ready to be released and brand new songs being  added to the fold regularly. Stay tuned for new originals, remixes, and mixtapes.
