shtum’s latest artist is none other than Avalon Emerson, who hits hard with her first appearance on the Dresden-based label with a record full of techno beauties. “Constantly My Cure (Vocal Mix)” features vocals by Avalon herself that ride on an unstoppable acid-driven bassline towards a forceful and paradoxically cold yet warm climax. “Constantly My Cure (Plan Around Me Dub)”, offers an instrumental redux that's less ambiguous in its intentions — this one's aimed straight for maximum dancefloor effect. "Sword and Rose Forever" shows once again that she knows how to create relentless club music imbued with beautifully bittersweet atmosphere. The EP closes with the punch of "Hurdy Gurdy DJ Tool," a break-laden machine-piston of a rhythmic workout that's made for those selectors who want to set fire to the floor and jam the energy up to a frenetic peak.

Arriving in time for the due season of Social Festival, Rotterdam born/Amsterdam-resident Joey Daniel hits up a Music On-recorded podcast showcasing his low-end dubby tech spectrum of dance music.

Joey Daniel was well known in his native Holland for his classic 300MPH party series at Toffler – an event which saw curated artists as big as Loco Dice but now is making big waves internationally, where he has made appearances at the likes off Awakenings, Time Warp Holland, Mysteryland, Sonus, Welcome To The Future, Pollerwiesen Festival, Extrema Outdoor Belgium, and many more. He's performed at the renowned BPM Festival in Mexico, struck out the lights at Berlin's Watergate, and, after an epic 11 closing set at Sunwaves Festival, picked up as resident by Marco Carola's acclaimed Music On parties at Amnesia - Ibiza. With a long list of achievements, we had the chance to catch a few words from the man himself - covering everything from his upbringing as a DJ to his upcoming performance, where he will be going back to back with Mark Fanciulli, at Social Festival.

Last week brought the welcome news Detlef Weinrich had opened up his archive of unreleased Tolouse Low Trax material spanning the past 10 years to Paris label Antinote for a trilogy of records. We noted this was coming at a time the former Kriedler band member was starting to get wider exposure for his own distinct brand of idiosyncratic dancefloor material; his Rushing Into Water 12" for local Düsseldorf label being among this year's best releases. A commission to remix Sano for the Colombian's incoming return to Cómeme is further evidence of this belated and well deserved rise for Tolouse Low Trax. There is of course a shared love of electronic music production at its most basic that ensures a Tolouse Low Trax appearance on Cómeme makes perfect sense, and you could argue that much of Weinrich's work sounds like a track from Matias Aguayo's label played at the wrong speed.

However, Weinrich's source material for his self-styled Tolouse Low Trax Interview Remix, Sano's "La Grúa" is much closer to the tempo he operates at. The first tangible material since his self-titled Sano LP some three years ago, Sebastian Hoyos toys around with a famous break on "La Grúa" at a pace that would perk the ears of Andrew Weatherall. On the Tolouse Low Trax remix, the sense of space is all the more apparent and finely complemented by some creeping vocal samples - stream it in full below.

Vlad Caia learned classical music before he was a producer, which makes sense when you listen to any of his releases. Like many of his Romanian peers, Caia’s music is slow-burning and organic, with more of a focus on subtle elements than big drops or bass lines. Originally inspired by scene leaders [a:rpia:r], Caia is part of a new generation of producers that have brought attention to Romania’s rich music scene in the last few years. 

Though primarily known as a solo artist, for much of his career Caia has been linked to the Romanian producer Cristi Cons. The pair can often be found making and playing stripped-back minimal together as SIT, as well as performing live under the alias Amorf, where they play a style of rich jazz-influenced house alongside pianist Mischa Blanos. They also run Amphia, a vinyl-only label that’s printed music from some of Romania’s key artists and will release Caia’s debut album later on this year. 

Caia plays Farringdon alongside Romanian staples Priku and Petre Inspirescu this Saturday, so we contacted him for a mix ahead of the date. For his mix he recorded an hour of typically organic soundscapes, before discussing sharing his unreleased music with friends, Romania’s afterhours culture, and his forthcoming release plans.

Japanese artist Kai a.k.a. Kaitaro Nakajima was born in 1977 and grew up in Tokyo. He started DJing at the age of 17 and took his first steps by spinning hip hop records. He later got into the world of minimal techno and house music in 2003. Since then he has been actively producing his own minimal tracks. He then moved his production studio to Berlin and has been performing live since 2007. Currently based in Berlin, Kaitaro is concentrating on live performances and track production.

Avenue Red 110 is a slick session of grooving, minimal, deep house, techno & spaced-out breaks from Italian-born Tanja Valente, better known as Antja. Based in Zurich, Switzerland, Antja is a regular fixture at the main underground clubs in the city such as Hive Club, Friedas Büxe, Supermarket and Revier. She has also been spinning further afield within Switzerland and abroad too, including in Berlin and Munich, as people are continuing to notice her rawly visceral, pulsating dancefloor-aimed selections and impeccable technical skills! Check her other mixes out too, including the one on the @waehlscheibe podcast where we first noticed her. Top stuff - go Antja!!

At his young age he has already collaborated with big artists such as tINI, Livio & Roby, Anthea just to name a few. As a producer he is already at the top of the mountain, but also as a DJ he is starting to make a name for himself. Afterhours 061: Florian Kopp ☁

Not long after the popular "The Bass EP" on Eyepatch, we are delighted to welcome the talented Chanelle Pearl  to the home of tech, Bonzai Basiks. Superb 4 tracker here with everything from deep tech house to funky tribal rhythms.

Kicking off we have the techno fuelled "No Guestlist Tonight", quite bouncy to begin, with cool crisp hats, deep range on the bassline which gains momentum building into an awesome vibe. Real nice synths at work and a spoken vocal adds weight to the tune, top stuff.

"Teka Therapy" adds funk to the sound while retaining that ever present tech undertone, cool, upbeat and catchy sounds will have any floor grooving.

Coming into a solid tribal groove is "Konga", super deep bass with hypnotic percs lead up to a wild ride on the bongos, tablas and all things slappy with big snare hits for good measure, top notch sound that will fill a lot of playlists.

Taking the tribal groove to new heights here on "Kuthumi", heavy duty drums at play with a super tight arrangement, lots going on yet easy to pick out individual sounds, big big sound here that would rock any speaker system.
