‘Vicissitude’, the debut EP from Los Angeles-based producer Lag Switch, to be released on Parisian label Abîme, is a record that tells the story of light and dark in which those two collide within a single entity.

On one side, there is the harrowing sound design, the monstrous textures and the overall lugubrious ambiance throughout the record. It depicts the bleak existence of a solitary creature, repulsive yet confused, steadily dragging itself through a barren wasteland leaving pain and suffering in its wake.

As the name of the record suggests, its other side is infused with hopeful and scaterred chords progressions paired with elegant motifs. While obscured by a thick layer of dark, desperate matter, a powerful light seeks tries to bring order to the underlying chaos.

When taking a closer look and immersing oneself in Vicissitude, the apparent contradiction between those two fades away, and we’re let with a brilliant depiction of one’s humanity’s oldest story. The creature, despite its unrestrained nature, reaches a benevolent understanding of itself and blurs light and dark into a visceral manifestation of hope as the record concludes.

ENDURANCE TEST, the queer musical exorcism from @debtstalker.
We often think that the future is in what lies ahead, though we may actually find it in the past. Endurance Test is Debt Stalker’s “tour de force”; wandering through the broken labyrinths of a conservative faith-stained childhood while confronting the many risks of pleasure, self-determination, and sex.
Like Christ on the Cross, Debt Stalker surrenders in martyrdom to this clinical trial wielding a spirit of reparation and a taste for gay vengeance. If the future was always behind us, we shall walk no further without understanding the outcomes of our own strength.

Pensamos que tenemos el futuro adelante, cuando deberíamos buscarlo atrás. Endurance Test es el “tour de force” de Debt Stalker por el que deambula por los laberintos rotos de una infancia teñida de fe conservadora, y enfrenta allí los riesgos del placer, la autodeterminación y el sexo. Como Cristo en la Cruz, Debt Stalker se entrega sin resistencias al martirio de esta prueba clínica con ánimo de reparación y un gusto a venganza marica en la boca. Si el futuro siempre estuvo detrás, no habrá pisada que no podamos dar sin conocer de antemano el resultado de nuestra propia fuerza.
