Michael Daves was born in 1977 in the southern empire of Atlanta, Georgia. He grew up playing bluegrass in that grand old tradition of staying up late & singing real loud. Although he’s since moved north, the humid south remains, lodged in his heart and sinus cavities. Heralded as “a leading light of the New York bluegrass scene” by the New York Times, Daves has garnered attention for his work with Chris Thile, Steve Martin, Tony Trischka, and others in addition to his solo performances.

The Colonels of Truth are a 6 member high energy bluegrass band out of Seattle. This band wasn’t formed by child hood friends nor was it formed in some magical meeting one night at a bar. Like good whiskey it was distilled over years of playing with many musicians at various jams, house parties, and festivals. These are the guys that at 2 am are the ones that think the jam is just getting going. These are the guys that drive 2 hours one way to regularly go to a jam. They took their time slowly gathering like minded individuals under one banner to create the Colonels of Truth. When these guys get on stage you can tell not only are they talented musicians, but they really enjoy making music together. While these musicians prefer playing bluegrass music, they have highly diverse musical backgrounds from classical, jazz, funk, reggae, Brazilian, and rock and they bring the best of all these styles under one roof, energy of a rock show, precision vocal and instrumental harmonies, off the cuff improvisation, funk and reggae jams. Colonels of Truth play traditional bluegrass standards, appalachian old-timey tunes, obscure newgrass tunes, and original tunes. All of the members are song writers and arrangers, some of them have even won awards in song writing contests, and they bring this creativity to their playing.

After meeting at the crossroads of blues and folk music in the Pacific Northwest, Ben Hunter and Joe Seamons established themselves as a duo after their first year at the Pt. Townsend Acoustic Blues Festival in 2012. Delving deeper into their shared love of traditional and communal American musical styles, they developed their sound by adapting the arrangements of luminaries such as Blind Willie McTell to their main instruments: fiddle and banjo. 

The next year at Pt. Townsend, Dom Flemons (formerly of the Carolina Chocolate Drops) caught their act, and invited them to North Carolina to form a new trio. In the spring of 2013, they recorded an album with Flemons and began touring across the South. Joe and Ben's duo sound matured as they worked with Dom and explored the cultures that spawned the music they had come to love. Now, as they prepare to release their own album of blues, rags, folk songs and fiddle tunes, Joe and Ben have begun to fuse the gritty hollers of the south with the ethos of their home in the Pacific Northwest. Their debut album will be released November 14, 2014.
