It’s time we look back to the sound of where it all began, to an artist embedded into the roots of the underground and a pioneer of good music. The Basement Boys and Baltimore house legend Teddy Douglas is our latest guest for Traxsource LIVE! and we can’t wait for you to hear what he’s whipped up for us.

A musically rich career would be an understatement, Teddy’s talent has seen him collaborate with some of the industry’s most notable names. Micheal Jackson, Crystal Waters, Erykah Badu, Groove Odyssey, Tribe, King Street, Nervous have all received Teddy’s production wizardry first hand, not to mention his incredible work steering the ship for Basement Boys records. 

But despite his many claims to fame, Teddy’s ears have always faced the future and have been tuned to the underground. Remaining true to his sound has built his reputation as one of the underground greats and he’s still pumping out high-quality releases to this day. His latest, ‘We Belong Together’ celebrates not only a staggering 100 releases for Basement Boys records but also a thirteenth year in the music business as an active recording label! The collaborative effort featuring Byron Stingley emits plenty of dance-floor forward energy and soul-touching moments that Teddy’s name has always remained synonymous with.

For his 60-minute mix, he pays tribute to the Basement Boys releases that shaped his career. Including tracks from Kenny Carpenter, Russell, Ann Nesby, Jasper Street Co, Fertile Ground, and a selection of his own tracks and remixes, this is the globally popular and indisputably big sound of Teddy Douglas.

DIE by the Natural Curve : 1st Single (Larse Remix)

I Die is the first release from The Natural Curve on the Best’s Friends Music label.

When the track was posted on Soundcloud, as a demo a few years ago, it caught the ear of legendary producer Niles Rodgers who simply tweeted: “That’s an awesome song!”

The tune has been revamped and updated by the Natural Curve, with the addition of guitar, percussion, and a funky-assed bass line.

I Die features the extraordinary vocal talents of the mighty Polly Gibbons; a Ronnie Scott’s and Birdland Jazz Club regular, with fans on both sides of the Atlantic. She has collaborated with the Natural Curve on several tracks.

BIO:

The Natural Curve is musician, songwriter, and producer Paul Cullen.

I Die is a typical Natural Curve track: a groovy collaboration with friends and musicians; a catchy ear-worm, packed with live performance, soul, funk, and character.

The Natural Curve repertoire is diverse, with downbeat, nujazz, d&b, house, and funk all featuring in the portfolio. The one thing that ties them all together: the groove. It has to be groovy. ‘All my best friends are bass players…’

The Natural Curve said: “Disco never died. It’s a musical perennial. There is always space for a new ‘classic’ and I Die is exactly that; slipping into the essential wedding DJ set and setting the dance floor on fire.

“The track is as groovy AF. It’s also a dead cert funeral favourite for the recently deceased, with a sense of humour.”

Solid Steel (3rd October) It's a pleasure to welcome Rob da Bank to Solid Steel. He was at Radio 1 for over a decade before moving to 6 Music, the founder of Bestival and Sunday Best Recordings and played at the Solid Steel club night in 2004. This is what he said about his mix;
‘I get pretty bored DJing if i can only play one style, which you can definitely tell in this mix. It's more of a collage of old and new tracks I might play as a warm up set than a seamless mix. i actually much prefer being the warm up dj and being able to play loads of styles. The pressure's off and you can go off kilter. The trip takes in vintage electronica from the likes of Mixmaster Morris, Aphex and Squarepusher, some old trip hoppy bits, brand spanking new electronic fire from Redinho, Bonobo and Clark and a few classics from the likes of DJ Mink and LFO - its a mix for a boring car journey or a night drinking whisky round a campfire…it starts off slow and noodly and somehow ends up pounding and fist pumping…like all the best parties.’

Berlin DJ/producer Daniel Steinberg returns with his wonderful third album ‘Left-Handed’ – a kaleidoscopic trip through house, electronica and jazz and imbued with the artist’s trademark warmth and adventurous musical spirit. 

With any rich, textured, personality-laden Daniel Steinberg release, there’s always a story. An entertaining tale often of misfortune and downtrodden luck that eventually gives rise to inspired moments of creative clarity and some of the finest productions of the German’s career.

True to form – ‘Left-Handed’ is no different. The colourful 9-track work was born out of a booze-fuelled accident around Christmas last year that resulted in a fracture to Steinberg’s right wrist. With his girlfriend heading home for the holidays and a broken internet connection, the Berliner had little else to do but pour his focus into music.
