traverse is back with a 4-track EP from French producer Alohn. Blending together ambient, idm, bass music, and downtempo, the artist merges electronic waves and acoustic samples to drift into hypnotic states.

The release is topped with remixes from Nantes-based DJ and producer Soa420, who recently released her first productions on French labels Bardouin and Hidden Rhythms, and our beloved Laenz who has previously contributed to traverse.

For this episode, Slowglide invites French producer Alohn to craft a one-hour mix, progressively shape-shifting from psych folk to minimalistic ambient to bass music. Last year, he released the Insekt EP via Lolo Batten’s traverse imprint : an hypnotic 4-tracker blending IDM, ambient & bass, in which he showed particular skills for intricate microrhythms & crispy sound design.

𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒆: Alohn - Hypnoglitch [95OT005]

Sticking to its roots in experimental dubstep, this fifth release really nails the label’s unique sound. It’s sometimes weird, sometimes made to tear up the dancefloor, but always unexpected.

This time, it’s Alohn taking the reins with a 6-track ride that twists every element in the best way possible. He even throws in live electric guitar, played by himself, because why not? Just when you thought the boundaries had already been pushed to the max, Alohn comes in and proves that dubstep and metal can actually go hand-in-hand - and sound absolutely insane doing it.

The journey kicks off with Lamantin, a halftime roller packed with textures, glitchy details, and effects from outer space. Just when you settle into the ride the guitar hits, and you know you're in for a wild one.

Maledictus follows with these airy, almost angelic vocal layers, drenched in effects. After a long, trippy build-up, it drops into a deep, head-nodding groove with IDM flavor.

Then there’s Hypnoglitch, all about swirling atmospheres and broken beats, leading into this nostalgic synth line that just hits. Super dreamy, super detailed, and full of vibe.

Doom Goblin switches things up again. It’s got a trip-hop feel, with long guitar notes and acoustic touches over a rhythm that refuses to follow the rules. Halfway through, the beat flips into something way faster and more classic, but it keeps the emotional depth. Honestly feels like two songs in one, made for the real heads.

Then comes Crypt, the banger of the release. Heavy kicks, punchy snares, and no messing around. It strips back some of the complexity to just hit hard. Perfect to smash a dancefloor but still full of those subtle details that make it unmistakably Alohn.

And finally, Chug Dub, the closer, and it’s a monster. Dubstep meets metal in full force. A wild fusion that somehow makes total sense. Cinematic. Powerful. One of a kind

Alongside Jun Fukamashi, Haruomi Hosono, Takashi Kokubo, Inoyama Land and many others, Hiroshi Yoshimura is a pioneer of the japanese "environmental ambient" music (kankyō ongaku) since the masterpiece debut album "Music for nine postcards" was released in 1982.

Many years dedicated to teach music and compose various projects after, notably "Green" in 1986, Yoshimura released "Wet Land" in 1993 on Eastworld Records.

It is when I met and host the brazilian artist from Voodoohop Numa Gama that I discovered the wonderful aquatic atmosphere and ethereal pads of "Singing Stream". I immediately decided to reinterpretate it by adding some percussions, a Model D-oriented bassline as well as crispy textures and smooth transitions to transform it into an ambient dancefloor track.

Here is the result.
