Recently we’ve been playing a lot of private parties and gigs around NYC  - - and this weekend we were asked for a fuLL dub // bass set. We decided to put a little Indian twist on it in honour of Durga Pooja, which is just finishing off now with her immersion in the sea. In fact, we’re releasing this set in Brooklyn just as Dussehra descends on India :: the holiday that celebrates the victory of good over evil. JAI !!

Guest mix I made for Vice Romania in August 2013.

"Pe Toma îl știu de pe vremea când scriam pentru un blog de muzică electronică și vorbeam constant pe ym. Este unul dintre fondatorii festivalului TMBase, produce electronică încă din 96, iar din 2001 este parte din proiectul experimental Makunouchi Bento. Prin 2006, sub numele de Qewza s-a apucat să facă mixuri de muzică românească de toate genurile (inclusiv veche, rară sau dubioasă). Se numeau Unu mai şi mai unu/două/trei și au durat trei ani, până a epuizat toate piesele preferate. Între timp a mai strâns o grămadă și anul ăsta a dat drumul unei serii smilare, Unu decembrie (plus Unu pe lună, o serie lunară cu mixuri axate pe un singur stil), sub numele Toma Carnagiu. Mixurile conțin piese Electrecord din anii 60 și 70 cu bogată aromă de vinil, IDM, hip hop, jazz, lăutărească, house, rarități și bootleg-uri. Toma nu este DJ, deși așa pare, este un digger care lipește niște best-of-uri colecționate obsesiv-compulsiv. Așa că l-am rugat să sape în arhiva lui și să ne facă și nouă un mix de dubioșenii, la care să rânjim cu gura pân' la urechi. După care, l-am luat la întrebări."

"I’ve always been sensitive to my surroundings and the world is in a very vulnerable place at the moment. I felt I needed to express my true emotions through something a little bit different to a conventional DJ mix and also that just writing one song was not going to be enough.

It was almost like composing a score, the only difference being that the pictures were only in my head. My ambition was for the music to evoke a visual response in the listener rather than just an emotional one. To do that I took some audio snippets of real life current affairs scenarios that really struck a chord in me and then used my DJ instinct to think of a track/musical piece that would fit well to that particular scene. Sometimes when I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted I added my own music over existing music or did my own sound design to create my own sound effects and also wrote some original pieces in the moment. It was very important to me to create ultimate flow and I felt this could only have been achieved without having any beats supporting the music. I also didn't want to make it eclectic nor constant as I felt that would disrupt the listener’s focus emotionally. There is a strong dynamic range throughout similar to classical music and also some parts that are almost meditative and then in contrast some more intense moments.
