Air (in B Flat )

This is the first song I am debuting in what is my forthcoming album, 'Follow the M.A.P.'. What is unique about this album, for me, is that it's the first time I've ever released a project tuned at 432Hz, which is said to be a frequency that is aligned with the Earth's vibration and thus vibrates to the listener more naturally, and raises their level of consciousness and peace.  Also, it's my first time showcasing just me on piano, acoustically, as this was recorded in a studio with me on an actual full grand piano.

Most of our modern music and instruments are tuned to the standard 440Hz, and some say it limits the fullness of what the listener can receive from a song. To give an option, when the album drops on June 1st, I will also be offering it in the standard 440Hz (in other words when you buy the album, you'll be getting it in both versions...but one price, of course). You decide which feels/sounds better to you.

Lastly, for those who pre-order the album now and until the release date, I will actually send you a full, complimentary copy of my first album ever (The After 2am Sessions LP) converted to 432Hz, as a thank you for believing in and supporting my work!

Life Works Out...Usually — available exclusively on Bandcamp for two weeks before it hits other DSPs — is a soothing antidote to these turbulent times; a soulful coming-of-age story celebrating black joy, self-empowerment and life learnings centered around an integral two year period of growth and featuring appearances from Fatima (Eglo Records), Joe Armon-Jones, Ego Ella May and Nala Sinephro — all part of our close-knit, London-based musical community.

Sonically, it draws a unique line between the grit of inner-city London soul, interstellar Flying Lotus electronic rushes and new-age Dilla-isms mixed with flecks of London’s exciting jazz-influenced sounds. Production comes from rising producers like Eun (Ego Ella May, Denzel Himself), Jake Milliner (Slum Village, Yazmin Lacey, Lord Apex), 104.ROG (Liv.e, THEESatisfaction) and Wu-Lu (Ego Ella May).

The #Reprelekt Show 084: A conversation w/ Demae

IVORY is the debut album from London based musician and producer, R-kay.

This body of work represents R-kay’s homage to the musical gravitas of the piano, which R-Kay cites as the starting point & key driver behind his creative process.

Since R-Kay released his last body of work ‘Groove Gems II’ he has further developed his sound, working as a contributor, musician and producer with many artists as well as composing for TV. IVORY serves as bold reintroduction and memento of R-kay’s development in sound & production. Sonically, he crafts a listening experience that converges upon his HipHop/Neo-Soul roots, whilst merging contemporary jazz and ambient elements, creating a moody yet expansive soundscape.

R-kay enlists the help of some of the UK’s most promising talent to explore the texture in our lives by tackling relatable extremes. The themes explore some of the more testing aspects of life (of which R-kay associates with a particularly volatile period in his own life). However, this is accompanied by hope, brightened up by moments of free flowing, ‘left’ musical expression (Searching, Greenhouse, The Reunion) which almost symbolises letting go and reclaiming one's peace and identity.
