BIO:
DJ and multi-hyphenate Black Truffle brings passion to music and the culinary arts. As a producer, vinyl collector and restaurateur, he sees parallels between finding rare tunes and unearthing truffles: for him, both food and music gain significance only when connected to a time and place.  Black Truffle has the magic touch for pairing distinct sounds with unique atmospheres - a creative alchemy that has led to the likes of Ashley Beedle, Kenny Dope, Gilles Peterson, Lipelis, Lay-Far, and Superbreak spinning his records. Apart from 3 EPs under GAMM, Black Truffle's edit was featured on 'Let's Dance Vol 2' EP on Funkyjaws (which sold out within weeks on cult-classic music site Juno), features a disco edit alongside legends like Eddie C, LTJ Xperience, and Frank Booker.

Fresh off a trip to the watercooler, London’s Clive From Accounts is circling back with his most expansive offering to date, the full length LP “The Very Best Of Clive From Accounts.” Action items include lead-off single “Save Me” with its driving organ stabs, soulful vocals, exuberant steel pans and just a touch of acid, as well as second single “Heavier” which lives up to its name as a dark and weighty club number that boasts some heavy toasting from Riko Dann. But you’ll also want to go ahead and put a pin in “Konsumu Suru” for a more melancholic tone with Japanese vocals by Maya Kuroki & violin by Jessica Roch, the mideastern tinged “It Began,” and classic drum & bass vibes of “Spectrum” amongst others!

We’ve run the numbers and offered this record in an expanded 10 track digital version and 7 track vinyl 12” sampler, that includes a special intra-office easter egg! A true win-win, this varied EP really fleshes out the depth and breadth of Clive’s wheelhouse, and is a deep dive into modern UK club sounds.

From roots playing illegal raves in the South West to building up a cultured catalogue that bounces between house and garage, Medlar has long been part of the underground conversation. He has dropped a previous album and many innovative remixes and edits for the likes of Billy Cobham and Shirley Lites, worked in the studio and on stage with Afro legend Dele Sosimi and most recently released an album under his own name that collected myriad different sonic sketches from the past 15 years. 

Islands is an altogether different proposition that comes after establishing himself as a mix engineer and producer of other people's music. In that time, Medlar has honed his skills, learnt new tricks and grown more able to express himself in sound. The result is an album that explores a more electronic palette inspired by '80s fusion sounds whilst maintaining a loose, organic flow through his use of live instrumentation.

“The idea for the LP was for a collection of music which could sit alone as club tracks, but would work equally well as part of a whole.  The name Islands came from this, as there's some connecting ideas but the tracks sit independently in their own little sonic worlds. I took a lot of inspiration from early 80’s electronic music produced during early years of MIDI technology… proto house, jazz fusion, electronic disco and experimental ambient. I wanted to juxtapose some of these methods with more contemporary production and make something that's ultimately quite fun!” says Medlar of the record which could easily soundtrack a summer road trip.  Across 11 tracks, he blends old-school techniques like a fusion of live instruments, FM synthesis and MIDI-triggered vocal samples with more contemporary touches such as punchy, club-friendly drums and dub inspired, speaker-wobbling low end. The result is less reliant on samples than his previous works and makes for a perfect blend of retro authenticity and future freshness. 

Sun Spots (feat Sam Virdie) is a warm late night jazz house sound with evocative trumpet leads.

PREMIERE: Medlar "Sun Spots (feat Sam Virdie)" [Delusions Of Grandeur]

The last time around, I did a mashup remix of #LoveLikeThis with the Fatback Band's "Wicky Wacky" that worked well together, but I was still a production newbie so with better skills now, I felt it could have been better, though many really like it, still to this day.

This time I created all the music from scratch, no samples (minus the original version's acapella vocals), and gave it a #sensual, #afrohouse, #soulful kinda vibe; I'm actually proud of how this one turned out, but listen for yourself and see how it moves you 😌

For all the remixes that have been done of this song, good and bad, I wanted to make something that sounded like this was what it could have been, organically, with no samples used (even the original version sampled #Chic's "Chic Cheer" from 1974).
