"Bad News" is about the struggles and frustrations of a complicated relationship. The chorus suggests that the addressed person should be aware of the issues and not act clueless about them. The verses express the singer's feelings of being taken for granted and hurt by the other person's actions. They are torn between their love for the person and the need to decide to let them go.
