Following on from the summer’s mischievous double header, ‘Octopuss / Karter Bachnabel’ (Figure 47), the two techno institutions that are Len Faki and Johannes Heil are back. If ‘Volume I’ reflected an upbeat, festival-friendly summer vibe, then ‘Volume II’ welcomes us indoors to the winter season, with two darker, straighter and more paranoid weapons. 


Both ‘Dirty’ and ‘Maniac’ continue the strong blueprint of the first EP, with the producer’s trademark rolling bass and intense arrangements making them perfectly-honed for the big floors.

‘Dirty’ takes an old school, intense party-techno vibe with a grinding organ hook leading us into the heart of the beast. Taking the best of 90s techno’s slamming drums -crisp claps and searing hi-hats - combined with the two producer’s top class production, its quite a handful.

No less effective is ‘Maniac’, a more introspective workout that fuses a pumping, warehouse vibe with submerged, filtering synth play. At once psychedelic, yet funky and timeless, it snakes and stalks its way through 7 minutes of classy reductionism. Simply masterful techno from two of it’s key contributors.

The third output for the PRRUKBLK series is a special one. The Planet Rhythm team came up with an all star line up consisting out of Rotterdam techno-stalwart Bas Mooy, LA based Modularz Head Honcho Developer, Berlin resident P.E.A.R.L.and newcomer Von Grall. Developer opens up the A side with a repetitive quest called Clench Of Fist that lingers on and contains minimal yet powerful changes. Berlin Based P.E.A.R.L. delivers a somewhat harder effort with Ordeal III Bas mooy opens up the B-side with the utterly rugged Thorfytt newcomer Von Grall closes down the 12inch with the mystic Under A stone

Podcast 16 comes from HAWKINSON, a friend of ours and a regular dj at our club.
When Techno essentially would be a big tree with branches like Minimal or Electro style then Hawkinson would be the trunk of that tree. While others have jumped on the bandwagons that have come and gone, Hawkinson knew from the first day where he belonged - simply techno. His first inspirations came from the same sources as for most guys in the business too - Kraftwerk, Jean Michel Jarre, New Order, Depeche Mode and Front 242 or Nitzer Ebb. And he has remained true to his inspirations. 
Hawkinson also shows a deep respect for the DJ culture. "DJing was and still is composition for me. I have always loved taking on new challenges - to take two vinyls in my hand and create something new.'' 
Since 2001, he has played at various clubs in Berlin. And with his releases he displays the outcome of staying true to his passion. He knows what the crowd wants, what they need, and he knows where he belongs: to the trunk of the techno tree.
