Techno Against Tyranny - Issue II

‘I’, and I put ‘I’ in inverted commas because this mix goes way beyond me; but oh my goodness - it captures something so special.

This mix will forever remind me of the crew I've had the pleasure of meeting on Guy J's online community. Many of the artists featured on this mix are part of it, and there are many more who, although not on this mix, are mainstays in my music collection, not to mention the up-and-comers and hobby producers who also inspire me with their creations.

During the lockdowns, Guy created something really special, and to be a part of it has been a huge blessing to us all. We've shared in each other’s joys and sorrows. Many have now met up and are forging real life friendships. We've debated hot topics, daring to venture into territory that makes us feel uncomfortable and stretches us, but done in the spirit that we've all come to know and love about Guy: humble, compassionate but determined not let the mistakes of the past prevent humanity from being all we can be.

Thank you, Guy J, and thank you to all the kindred spirits I've met through you. This mix will always remind me of you. Through the bonds of music, we are forever joined!

This sound is largely inspired by Northern Exposure and the first Renaissance album. Special thanks to Sasha and Digweed, and all the artists on this mix, for their inspiration and influence. 

It's about 3hrs of some of the most memorable progressive house I own on vinyl. It's pitched down as the tempo I play at these days is significantly slower. If that annoys you, the pitched up version can be found on my Mixcloud page.

This set was inspired by Cornucopia and Luka Sambe's new releases, Dragons in Paradise and the Fundamental Transience of Everything. Whilst looking for music to complement these gorgeous releases, I discovered the power of the guitar in conveying the sound of hope. As such the first seven of nine tracks on this mix feature the incredible diversity of guitar - and sitar - in electronic music. 

HOPE is the motif that underscores this mix. Special thanks to all the artists for supplying this in abundance ❤️
