Das Spezial is a daring UK-based independent record label, founded in 2019 by music producer Shahab Notghi, with the vision of curating a collective of musicians and artists dedicated to crafting bold, genre-defying music that disrupts convention and redefines the landscape of the UK independent music scene.

Rooted on the South Coast and nurtured across creative hubs in Bournemouth, London and Bristol, Das Spezial operates as a collaborative hive with Notghi at its core. Over the years, Notghi has been mentored by and worked alongside some of the industry’s most acclaimed veterans—including Steve Dubbs (The Chemical Brothers) and Clive Deamer (Radiohead)—experiences that continue to shape the collective’s innovative direction. The project now brings together producers, acclaimed musicians and vocalists —including Stew Jackson (Massive Attack), Ewan Pearson (Goldfrapp, Chemical Brothers), and others—each contributing their artistry to create immersive, cinematic soundscapes designed for both underground resonance and main-stage spectacle.

Their output showcases a fearless range: from orchestral crescendos and melodic ballads to punk-tinged lyricism and brooding electronica. Past projects and EP releases highlight their restless creativity, with string arrangements by Royal Academy alum Drew Morgan and contributions from a diverse roster of collaborators.

Das Spezial is more than a record label—they are cultivating a new wave of collaboration and creativity within the UK independent music scene, pushing boundaries through innovative production, world-class musicianship, and a vision that merges genres, influences, and disciplines into something truly unique.

I love sounds and I enjoy meshing them together. I guess my stuff is not music in the sense of melody but just an organisation of different sounds or noises.

I am a disciple of the late great Conrad Schitzler. 

I'm not in it for the money. Just want to give people an opportunity to hear something outside of the norm.
