☼☼☼ Welcome to episode 1.2 ☼☼☼

In today’s episode, I felt like building a journey that travels across the Wadi’s (Valley’s) and the Sahari (Sahara) of the Middle East and beyond. After a recent visit to العلا Al-Ula in Saudi Arabia, a much needed reconnection to our beautiful land and its rich heritage, culture, and history. A journey of discovery which certainly has left us in awe. For that reason, the trip inspired me to bring in more Arabic & Middle Eastern flavors in this episode. 

  With a hypnotic عُود (Oud) intro, to melodies by the majestically sounding قانون‎ (Kanun) tracing its origins to Ancient Greece, to the groovy and shaking sounds of the energetic دربوكة‎ 
 (Darabukka) percussions, a drum piece used in Mesopotamian and Ancient Egyptian cultures. Arabic lyrics and موال‎  Mawwal (A traditional chant/song in Arabic genre of vocal music that is very slow in beat and sentimental in nature).   But of course, let’s not forgot the more electronic side of things, no narrative needed (:

(Story continued from Witchtape #58)

On that April evening, the little witch had nimbly climbed into the tallest tree of the forest to get a better view of the glorious sunset.  After the last rays of sunlight had faded away, an even more amazing celestial constellation unfolded in the western sky, with a tiny crescent of the new moon following the sun down to the horizon, followed by planet Venus.  Actually, the girl had never seen Venus shine so brightly, and the soft green glow of the planet really got under her skin, raising her feminine energy to a level she had never felt before.  High up in the tree, she felt so intensely connected with mother earth and with planet Venus at the same time… and also with the baby witch who was sleeping peacefully in the safety of her womb.  At that moment, she realized she was not a little girl anymore, but a fully-fledged witch.
A few minutes later, the little witch sensed a presence at the foot of the tree.  And when she looked down, her heart skipped a beat.  In the soft moonlight and greenish Venus glow, she saw her wizard standing below her… he had finally returned from his ancestral grounds in Africa.  The little witch swiftly descended to the lowest branch of the tree, from where the giant (2m40 tall) wizard gently picked up the petite (1m58) girl and he held her tightly in his arms while they exchanged a passionate welcome kiss.  Of course, the wizard had many stories to tell from his home village in the African rain forest, but first they simply enjoyed each other’s company, while snuggling close to one another on the soft moss.  Soon the moon would disappear behind the horizon, followed by planet Venus.  But by then, witch and wizard were already in their own world of love and joy on their soft bed of dry moss, only having eye for each other, even when it started to rain well after midnight, ending a dry weather spell of 6 weeks.  And at daybreak, all animals were surprised to see the forest all of a sudden covered with a colorful flower carpet… spring was in the air…

My first summer mix of this year is dedicated to Ongun, a dear music friend of mine who will get married this weekend. 

Dear Ongun,  from the bottom of my heart I wish you all the best and hope to visit you anytime soon in Bursa. During the short time we have known each other you have impressed and inspired me a great deal from a musical point of view. You are doing a wonderful job, please keep it up.  If you succeed in impressing your dearest one the same way, one can only envy the young woman.  Cheers my friend.

Für unser neustes Tape freuen wir uns sehr euch mit Nicolas Schilling ein wahres musikalisches Chamäleon präsentieren zu dürfen. Nach seinen ersten Schritten mit klassischer Musik und einem vorübergehenden Farbwechsel zu punkigen Tönen macht Nicolas nun als Teil des vierköpfigen Techno-Jazz-Fusion-Ensembles @rhizomatique seit einigen Jahren die Club- und Festival-Landschaft unsicher. 
Durch Live-Improvisation sowie die immer währende Lust neue Wege zu gehen, erreicht der Sound der Gruppe eine sich konstant verändernde und dennoch wiedererkennbare Dynamik. Genau das trifft wohl auch auf Nicolas Eigenproduktionen und Solo-Livesets zu, in denen stets ein Hauch seines musikalischen Backgrounds zu spüren ist. Dieser macht sich vor allem durch eine Vorliebe für stimmige Arrangements aus melancholisch anmutenden Melodien und atmosphärischen Chord-Folgen bemerkbar und lässt uns gespannt auf zukünftige Klangwelten aus dem Hause Schilling blicken. Also ihr Lieben, zurücklehnen und genießen!
