Over the last 18 months, lots of you have kept asking when Sunsets & Dolphins will be released. We're proud of the track and enjoyed making it, but at the same time it has never quite aligned itself with the vision we have for our release plans. When you write music every day, you often end up with tracks that you're pleased with, and even play out sometimes, but that you don't necessarily feel warrant a full release. 

That said, since Disclosure played it in their Essential Mix there's been a lot of love for the track, and numerous requests for it to be released. Coming from a pirate radio/rave tape youth, there was always something about those tracks that existed in isolated, out-of-reach forms... only ever heard on a single tape or sometimes only ever played by a single DJ, who had the only dubplate. 

We're not sure that's even possible any more in the digital age, but as the reaction to Sunsets & Dolphins reminded us of that, we thought it would be fun to cut it to a single dubplate and give it away to one of you. We're not the first to do it, we might not be the last. But hopefully you'll appreciate the sentiment :) Big up as always... Once again Life and Death presents an assemblage of some of today’s finest artists with a Various Artists release of such high quality that it could have easily stood out as distinct and separate releases. But together these producers and their contributions combine to create something even greater than the sum of their parts. A story assembled from different voices that slowly builds from Sei A’s opening Muladhara-centered “Hyper Venom” and takes off from there, following the path of these musical Mahatmas as they riff on various states of elevation. 

Following Sei-A’s opener is Locked Groove’s shift to the Undenary with “Eleven”, a triumphant score for the everyman’s ascent. From there, the ever adept Scuba comes strong with “Glacial”, a deep track that shifts focus back and forth between both what lies below the surface and what climbs above it. And then, finishing the rise upward is Alex.Do’s expertly woven “Rising” which delivers on the promise that its title offers, never backing down and moving ever onwards and upwards even in its final rising tones.

Eats Everything - Way Past Bedtime

'Liquids' is a dusty, washed out odyssey. An intergalactic journey through sweeping synths, intricate percussion and alien squeaks that trickle in-and-out for the duration. It's an excellent and intelligent piece of music from the pair and one that sits fantastically on the comp.

SCI+TEC welcome a new name to the label, but a very much established artist on the scene. Rumors, Get Physical, Saved and Akbal are just some of the labels to have released the music of Italian producer Lancaster, and his residency at Barcelona’s Macarena club, that now tops a decade, has lead to an unrivaled knowledge of how to exquisitely manipulate a dancefloor. 

This enviable skill for warming a room, building tension and atmosphere within the boundary of four walls, has transferred to Lancaster’s own productions. Intricate and precise, with minute and delicate movements, his music is perfect for those enduring and extended sets. 

His debut plunges us into the deep, as we go Diving With Sharks. Opener ‘More Music’ is a perfect, beatless intro that features the vocals of Mo Pink. Cymbals, synth and sirens, cascading and crashing in bombastic fashion. Quite the opposite is the deep, bubbling slink of the title track. Warm bass and fluid fx see the track flow, as a variety of vocal samples lap back and forth within the mix. The addition of stormy synth stabs however, keep us on our toes. 

Final track ‘Bubble’, is a sparse and spacey affair. The emptiness is filled with a solid kick-drum, echoing fx and a ticking clock. Which surely must be signalling the end of our debut with Lancaster. We can’t wait to have him back.

Following up from our Blondes remix, here's another slab of 'Ice house'. 

Something a little deeper, this remix was actually made when London was under a deep blanket of snow, inspiring us to do something a little icy! Bit of an experiment, wanted something that was deep and ambient but also worked on a peak time floor.

Korg m1 and Mono poly, lots of filter... all heavily seasoned with some slammin' drums
