Over the last 18 months, lots of you have kept asking when Sunsets & Dolphins will be released. We're proud of the track and enjoyed making it, but at the same time it has never quite aligned itself with the vision we have for our release plans. When you write music every day, you often end up with tracks that you're pleased with, and even play out sometimes, but that you don't necessarily feel warrant a full release. 

That said, since Disclosure played it in their Essential Mix there's been a lot of love for the track, and numerous requests for it to be released. Coming from a pirate radio/rave tape youth, there was always something about those tracks that existed in isolated, out-of-reach forms... only ever heard on a single tape or sometimes only ever played by a single DJ, who had the only dubplate. 

We're not sure that's even possible any more in the digital age, but as the reaction to Sunsets & Dolphins reminded us of that, we thought it would be fun to cut it to a single dubplate and give it away to one of you. We're not the first to do it, we might not be the last. But hopefully you'll appreciate the sentiment :) Big up as always... With our Detroit debut finally happening at Populux on 12 September, we thought it would be cool to upload our Ode To Detroit mix, which we originally compiled for BBC Radio 1. Other than London, it’s hard to think of one specific city that has influenced us as much as Detroit in terms of electronic music… something that is true for so many producers the world over. This was our attempt to crystallize that influence into a 5 minute mini-mix! N&A

SCI+TEC welcome a new name to the label, but a very much established artist on the scene. Rumors, Get Physical, Saved and Akbal are just some of the labels to have released the music of Italian producer Lancaster, and his residency at Barcelona’s Macarena club, that now tops a decade, has lead to an unrivaled knowledge of how to exquisitely manipulate a dancefloor. 

This enviable skill for warming a room, building tension and atmosphere within the boundary of four walls, has transferred to Lancaster’s own productions. Intricate and precise, with minute and delicate movements, his music is perfect for those enduring and extended sets. 

His debut plunges us into the deep, as we go Diving With Sharks. Opener ‘More Music’ is a perfect, beatless intro that features the vocals of Mo Pink. Cymbals, synth and sirens, cascading and crashing in bombastic fashion. Quite the opposite is the deep, bubbling slink of the title track. Warm bass and fluid fx see the track flow, as a variety of vocal samples lap back and forth within the mix. The addition of stormy synth stabs however, keep us on our toes. 

Final track ‘Bubble’, is a sparse and spacey affair. The emptiness is filled with a solid kick-drum, echoing fx and a ticking clock. Which surely must be signalling the end of our debut with Lancaster. We can’t wait to have him back.

FJAAK -  Curious [50 Weapons]

The split EP ‘Transmitting Coordinates’ comprises the efforts of Uun, whose roots lay in Kansas (USA), and Argentina’s Vladw – the former a familiar face, the latter a newcomer to the label. While the physical distance between their home bases couldn’t have been much bigger, their visions of techno and the mature sound it results in in both their tracks, are about as close as it gets. The similarities in this piece of present-day techno go beyond repetitiveness: both artists exceed at the use of glitchy tops blended with tight low ends, and letting those evolve so gradually that it nearly goes unnoticed. It results in these four solid cuts that need nothing but their comprehensive grooves to stay fascinating. One can only hope that somewhere in the future, the work of Uun and Vladw will find its way to many more EP’s like these.

Radio Slave welcomes UK techno talent Roberto to Rekids to deliver the latest instalment in the ‘Special Projects’ series as he opens 2019 with his ‘Let’s Be Free’ EP.

Based in London, Roberto aka Rob Kirkaldy is one of the latest names of note to emerge from the capital’s ever-impressing electronic music scene having showcased his rich blend of deep and immersing techno via a host of esteemed imprints including ARTS, Fachwerk and his own label Fossil Archive, founded in 2015, in recent years. Following a string of performances across revered establishments including fabric, Tresor, Culture Box and Berghain, 2019 will open with a debut outing on Radio Slave’s Rekids imprint as he delivers four entrancing techno cuts in the form of his ‘Let’s Be Free’ EP, set to drop in late January as part of the label’s Special Projects series.

‘The Jester’ opens the EP as Kirkaldy fuses slick, crisp percussion amongst murky swells and ever developing, dubby chord arrangements, whilst ‘Tonic’ continues this aesthetic as transcendental melodies meet deep kicks and delicate hats to reveal a captivating journey across six and a half minutes.

On the flip, ‘The Days Are Longer Now’ utilises a skillful balance of emotive synths and refined kicks to deliver the most up front production of the package, before title cut ‘Lets Be Free’ closes proceedings as resonant melodies and paired back organic percussion patterns ebb and flow amongst pockets of intricate sound design to conclude yet another impressive release on the Berlin based imprint.
