o.utlier - Suspend

Matching expansive ambience with environmental sound, Chihei Hatakeyama’s new album continues Field Records’ exploration of Japan and the Netherland’s shared approach to water management. As with SUGAI KEN’s 2020 album Tone River, a specific project becomes Hatakeyama’s area of focus - in this case the Hachirōgata Lake in Akita Prefecture. 

Previously the second largest body of water in Japan, the government ordered extensive drainage work of Hachirōgata Lake after the second world war with the help of Dutch engineers Pieter Jansen and Adriaan Volker. After the project was completed in 1977, reclaimed land took up eighty percent of Hachirōgata Lake’s total size. As a result, a new ecosystem was established as plants spread from surrounding areas, bringing with them a wider variety of birds and other wildlife. 

Hatakeyama’s approach to this unique subject matter took in field recordings from particular locations around the lake - the drainage channels, the Ogata bridge, grassland conservation reserves and other key areas. The aquatic subject matter and sonic material is a natural fit for Hatakeyama’s accomplished sound, which has featured on numerous solo works for labels including Kranky, Room40 and his self-run White Paddy Mountain. 

From the intimate intricacies of the sampled material to the glacial expanses of droning synthesis and languid guitar, Hatakeyama creates a tangible environment which at once reflects the settings around Hachirōgata Lake, while offering the listener any number of imagined scenes to observe in their mind’s eye.

This project is supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Tokyo, Japan.

"Pleasure Manoeuvre" molds an analogue-fueled lilting, warm and immersive head space, lit by a looping wavering of obsessive mellow wispy melodies, icy piercing fascinations, muted rolling percussions, and subtly clapping echoes, to rouse attention-grabbing frequencies gaining focus through curiosity.

Glasgow-based Bricolage imprint's first release of 2024 sees a new addition to the label in the form of Payta and her Bricolage album debut, "Samsara".
Payta (@user-52989591) is a multi-disciplinary creative, based in the UK. Adept in both the audio and visual side of the arts and performing live at events across the UK,
Payta's new album sees her take that warm analogue feel from her live sets and channel it into a stunning release full of slowly evolving hypnotic soundscapes.
Side A of the cassette is a collection of fleeting, electronica and IDM influenced sketches. Ephemeral bursts of melody and cascading rhythms combining to create a colourful and vivid mosaic of sounds.
Side B consists of two longer tracks that allow time for a sense of depth but keep that hazy kaleidoscopic feel while allowing for a more textural flow and blossoming ambient palettes to emerge.

Samet is proud to present its 4th release made by a Strasbourg-based artist Itako. During the past few years we have been witnessing his musical development, organically evolving from EBM influenced sound with a touch of bass and broken beat music, constantly moving forward his own unique sound. 

On this release, Itako brings six dirty club tracks (including a remix made by Rusmir and a collaboration track with Vod Kasat) wildly spanning between BPM, going from industrial downtempo all the way to pumped up DNB/half-tempo infused tracks.

Tectonic

EC0RCE is the new avatar of French-Brussels artist Grégoire Fray, best known for his post-rock/industrial band THOT or his intimate folk tales under the guise of The Hills Mover. As EC0RCE, he abandons guitars in favor of electronic, analog, abstract sounds. It is also organic due to the absence of computers in the creative and compositional process: everything is conceived and played according to the limitations of his machines.

His debut single, “Letting Ghost,” born in the coldness of winter, in the absence of answers, and polished through to the warmth of summer, is set for release on the day of the autumn equinox 2025.
