The sound of the new record is made of pure and cristalline glacial sounds (like snow) which blend themselves into long repetitive tracks (loipe) giving the listener anastounding mix of conflicting sensations. Close your eyes and you can be either in the warmest desert or on the north pole ice pack. The album comes in a precious handmade gatefold with a 12 page booklet of pictures made by Orsi.

A first preview to Marsen Jules new album "Beautyfear" to be released in January 2014 on Oktaf Records.

With "Beautyfear" on Oktaf Records the German electronic musician Marsen Jules (CCO, 12K, Kompakt) delivers one of his most outstanding albums so far. Mastered by no one else than 12K-labelboss Taylor Deupree and with a coverpicture taken by the highly acclaimed photographer Erik Madigan Heck from NYC, the best conditions are laid for a lasting experience of abstract musical poetry and touching soundscapeism. Jules has never been this dense, subtile and fragile before. All twelve tracks on „Beautyfear“ were created during a week stay in a theatre workspace on one of the hills of Lisbon. The panoramic view over the dusty city in spring seemed to have been the perfect surrounding for this cloudy soundscapes, which at some points remind of Angelo Bandalamentis‘ work for David Lynch‘s "Mullholland Drive". „It‘s an album on the fragility of beauty“, as Jules describes briefly. Music that can neither be described as ambient music or experimental sound art, but more likely delivers a poetic approach to music, live and sound itself. With „Beautyfear“ Marsen Jules makes a great start into 2014 and with the already announced cooperation with Swedish filmmaker Anders Weberg and an upcoming release of his works from a residence at the legendary GRM studios in Paris, one should definitely keep an eye on what is coming next. ﻿

On the 21st of March 2014 we will be celebrating 5 years of Home Normal. It has been an incredible journey to get this far and we never could have reached it without the kind support of talented artists and all the wonderful people who have ever bought one of our releases or attended one of our shows.

In this modern digital age with its constant stream of information, we've sought to work as quietly as possible, firmly rooting our ethos that things can be released in a subtle, quiet way. 'Organic' has always been the key word, and we are so thankful that people seem to still appreciate the natural path we've chosen, ignoring all the noise that surrounds our chosen way.

To celebrate this great landmark for us, we will be releasing our 5th year compilation 'Elements'. With over 60 artists from our past, present and future involved, this five disc compilation will be raising money for 5 different charities which are close to our hearts. All profits from the releases will be donated to the charities as follows:

Elements One (地)
The Archway Foundation is a charity that was set-up by my father which aids those who suffer from loneliness through outreach, social events, and befriending.

Elements Two (水)
The British Heart Foundation fund extra research into the causes, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart and circulatory disease.

Elements Three (火)
ecoACTIVE is an innovative environmental education charity with a reputation for using hands-on, practical and fun approaches to explore complex issues of sustainability.

Elements Four (風)
Habitat Japan is very close to our hearts as they help to build houses for people who lost their homes in Sendai and Fukushima. They also provide valuable support worldwide to those in most need.

Elements Five (空)
Kalaweit is a wonderful charity my wife supports regularly. Its main objective is to save the gibbons of Indonesia and their habitat. In addition to this they also educate the local community about deforestation, as well as the dangers of increased use of palm oil leading to a rapid destruction of their habitat and continuing loss of biodiversity. Such education and protection is fundamental in one of the mot incredible (but poorly protected) countries in the world.

With their distant, icy ambient music in shades of pale blues and greys, the Norwegian duo Pjusk evoke lonliness, time and landscape with their sound that stretches slowly, carefully and patiently through the air. Having previously released two albums on 12k, their debut Sart (12k1042, 2007) and Sval (12k1059, 2010) and a third, Tele (Glacial Movement Records, 2012), Pjusk return with perhaps their boldest and most focused album yet. Solstøv is an album made almost entirely from the sound of the trumpet (performed by Kåre Nymark jr), both natural and processed. Pjusk explored it not only as the delicate acoustic instrument that it is but as a generator of tone and nuanced source material. 12k’s Taylor Deupree was invited to provide sonic manipulations of the trumpet with the sound design system Kyma transforming it into delicately strange passages and tones.

Solstøv’s instrumental approach allowed the duo to focus and dig incredibly deep into the harmonic world they were creating. Playing off ideas of the macro and the micro, from the universe above to the earth below our feet (so beautifully realized in the cover painting by Marianne Morild)Pjusk was able to firmly command their characteristic glacial sound, yet approach it from an entirely different musical starting point. The duo’s massive soundscapes are punctuated with low, churning rhythms, sparkling and fractured textural fragments all accented and wrapped in harmonic movements of the trumpet and its ghosts. 

Solstøv, the sun, the dust... expansive, shifting, weightless and shimmering. This is an album, epic in its sound and approach, that channels the Norwegian landscape in all of its stark beauty; its cold, its warmth, and its place in the universe. To listen to Pjusk is to sit quietly in an endless night.

The original ‘The Death Of Rave’ project releases in 2006 was vast, over two-hundred flashbacks, using all of the dance floor hits from the time and stripping them of energy and spirit, turning them into shadows and ghosts. The material pre-dates the recent obsession younger musicians have for re-creating remembered rave textures and memories. This was not nostalgia, It was an inverted paean to a time when the music was about bringing people together for a shared experience. A time when only the music, advancement of sound and getting on one mattered.

About the album:
What started out as a personal challenge to make an album in 7 days grew into something else entirely. Over a year in the making, and expanding his trademark guitar sound with drums, strings, bells, organs and synthesisers, 'And It Was So' features contributions from fellow label mates Field Rotation (violin) and Petrels (cello) along with tour partner Jordan Chatwin (drums/percussion) and long time collaborator Anais Lalange (viola).

If last years album 'Descent Into Delta' was reminiscent of plunging into the murky depths, his latest offering 'And It Was So' evokes the expansiveness, dynamicism and density of the cosmos . Attempting to find order in chaos is something Talvihorros has been striving to achieve over the past three albums and he has never balanced these elements so beautifully.

this particular remix features sarah chung's vocals, my vibraphone, piano, and bells - mixed and layered on top of snippets taken directly from the pistoruis master .wav file(didn't have stems for these remixes).  was interesting to see what i could do with a flattened .wav file of a song - typically a much higher challenge than creating a remix having the stems to work with.

some tools i used in the process: speakerphone, ktgranulator, masterverb, sir2, some max4live patches and of course ableton 8.
