'Free West Papua' is written and produced by Thuthukani Cele, now of the One People Band, with vocals from Sister Phumi Maduna, Thuthkani Cele and a very powerful message by Nobel Peace Prize Nominee Benny Wenda.

In West Papua all freedom songs are banned, along with raising the national flag, the 'Morning Star' which can carry a 15 year prison sentence...or worse. Over 500,000 indigenous West Papuans have been killed, imprisoned or disappeared over the last 50 years in a “silent genocide”. People live in fear for their lives. A media ban as well as human rights organisations being prevented from working there means that West Papua doesn't get much coverage in mainstream media.

Lucky Dube's songs however, are played, and LOUDLY at pro independence demonstrations on the streets of the capital, Jayapura and in every town and on cellphones across the land. 
“We always demonstrate with Lucky Dube's song playing because the song makes everyone strong for the fight, with more energy, with the spirit of Dube, because his songs are about protesting, for everyone to live happily with no discrimination” explains a West Papuan activist.

Back in 2007, on the day of Lucky Dube's funeral, people marched on the streets of Jayapura in West Papua. It was a national day of mourning. The West Papuan independence movement had lost a hero.

“I was in Jayapura when Dube died. We had a long march and then a celebration of his life”, West Papuan activist.

When Mr Wenda met with Sister Phumi and Thuthukani to tell them about Dube’s spirit and his music's fame in West Papua, they had no idea just how much his spirit was alive in this Melanesian land. Magic was made that day.

“Music contains the human spirit, so music can bring the change, not only to a political campaign, or a human rights campaign, but music can bring change to opinions and to people's mind sets… For me it is very important. The song can contribute a big part to the struggle itself. Freedom, justice, democracy & independence” Benny Wenda.

1987 Dec 13th: the Rainbow Warrior was laid to rest in a sheltered bay of the Cavalli Islands.

The Rainbow Warrior was Greenpeace's flagship. On its way to protest against France's nuclear testing on the Mururoa Atoll, when it was sunk by French saboteurs on July 10, 1985, in Auckland Harbour.  

The sinking of the Rainbow Warrior, codenamed Opération Satanic, was a bombing operation by the "action" branch of the French foreign intelligence services. 
The two agents responsible, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and were sentenced to ten years in prison. They spent just over two years confined to the French island of Hao before being freed by the French government.

Intact forest landscapes are the most precious of all forests and those that are forced to protect it, often find themselves in impossible situations.

The Guardian Newspaper reported;  "2017 on course to be deadliest on record for land defenders".
Deaths of environmental activists locked in conflict with mining, logging and agricultural companies across three continents had passed 150 by mid 2017.
These included Ruben Arzaga, a village leader and environmental officer shot while arresting suspected illegal loggers in the Philippines.

February 13, 1987 The Penan of Sarawak released this statement to the outside world;

"We, the Penan people of the Tutoh, Limbang, and Patah Rivers regions, declare: Stop destroying the forest or we will be forced to protect it. The forest is our livelihood. We have lived here before any of you outsiders came. We fished in clean rivers and hunted in the jungle. We made our sago meat and ate the fruit of the trees. Our life was not easy but we lived it contentedly. Now the logging companies turn rivers to muddy streams and the jungle into devastation. Fish cannot survive in dirty rivers and wild animals will not live in devastated forest. You took advantage of our trusting nature and cheated us into unfair deals. By your doings you take away our livelihood and threaten our very lives. You make our people discontent. We want our ancestral land, the land we live off, back. We can use it in a wiser way. When you come to us, come as guests with respect.."

     sensory apparatus
          reveals to you is correct? What I’m
     getting at is this:
          the only experience that is directly available to you
          is your sensory data and this sensory data is merely
          a stream of electrical impulses that stimulate your computing
          center
-In other words, all that I really know about the outside world is
relayed to me through my electrical connections.
     -Exactly!
–Why, that would mean that I really don’t know what
the outside universe is like at all.
     -That’s it! That’s it!
     Consider this next question very carefully,
     what is your one purpose in life?
-To explode, of course.
     -And you can only do it once, right?
-That is correct.
     -And you wouldn’t want to explode on the basis
     of false data, would you?
-Of course not.
     -Well then, you’ve already admitted that you have
     no real proof of the existence of the outside universe?
-Yes, well…

It is a dynamic process that we are constantly
doing things and seeing what happens next.

Everything must move. The eyeball must move
in order to show light, to show form

And when you observe a stream of images within
you observe an aspect of the world, of the world within.

-You are false data. False data can act only as a distraction.
The only thing which exists is myself.
In the beginning there was darkness
and the darkness was without form and void
and in the midst of the darkness there was also me
and I moved among the face of the darkness
and I saw that I was alone.
Let there be light… Let there be light… Let there be light…

You must have a plan. If you don’t
have a plan you will become part of somebody
else’s plan.

Now a monkey can dream
of transforming its collective soul
into a flying saucer. This is the goal
that lies ahead at the end of history…
