On April 7th, 2024 I woke up and decided to finish my Kuduro album, featuring unreleased tracks from the 2000s and some exclusive ones that might never have seen the light of day. Among them, an instrumental intended for Bruno M, a wild aligning track with Nato P3, a song my mother loves called "Canoa" featuring Elenco de Nome and DJ Vamburgue, and many other instrumentals. I decided to create "Louro e Sal Vol.1," an album that takes us 20 years back, when everything started to make sense in my life, albeit without sense, because at the time I had no idea what was happening in my past, which is now my present and has brought me to the future, the year 2024. I live in a mix of nostalgia, reminiscing about when I was a kid, and I take the opportunity to share with you my Kuduro self.

No dia 7 de Abril, 2024 acordei e decidi terminar o meu álbum de Kuduro com músicas que nunca foram lançadas desde os anos 2000, incluindo algumas faixas exclusivas que talvez nunca fossem lançadas. Entre elas, um instrumental destinado ao Bruno M, uma faixa alinhadora maluca com o Nato P3, uma música que a minha mãe gosta muito chamada "Canoa" com Elenco de Nome e DJ Vamburgue, e muitas outras instrumentais. Decidi criar o "Louro e Sal Vol.1", um álbum que remete 20 anos atrás, quando tudo começou a fazer sentido na minha vida, embora sem sentido, pois na altura eu não tinha noção do que estava a acontecer no meu passado, que é agora o meu presente e me trouxe ao futuro, que é o ano de 2024. Vivo uma mistura de nostalgia, lembrando-me da minha infância, e aproveito para partilhar convosco o meu eu no Kuduro.

Gqom Oh! records presents "The Originators"; a five track EP respresenting the past, the present and the future of Gqom - the thunderous club sound from Durban, South Africa. 

The Gqom Oh! label was set up by Rome-based DJ and musician Nan Kolè to highlight the music and artists of Durban, the often overlooked cradle of the new South African sound. The label's 2016 compilation - ‘Gqom Oh! The Sound of Durban Vol.1’ - broke the sound out of South Africa, Pitchfork calling it “The largest and most thoughtful survey of the genre available to western audiences to date”. Recently joining Kolè is Sboniso Brandon Luthuli aka Citizen Boy on the ground as local A&R. 

The EP's A-Side is dedicated to two of the genre's most prominent producers. DJ Lag is a frontrunner in pushing Gqom worldwide. Making music from a young age and building up a solid reputation in South Africa, he’s known as the "King of Gqom". Griffit Vigo, a real innovator in the Gqom genre, grew up in the same area as DJ Lag and has attained a legendary status amongst his peers.

"When I was in Durban the first time I noticed that Griffit Vigo was a kind of legendary figure, he'd been inspiring all the Gqom Durban artists for a long time. Nobody knew where he was but everybody was playing him and sometimes using his beats to make new songs. The main track 'Ree’s Vibe' was the peak moment of DJ Lag's sets all over the world. If Lag is the Gqom King then Griffit Vigo is the Gqom Legend."

Sbucardo is one of the most respected DJs around the streets and the townships of Durban. Featuring Abnormal on 'Iphoyisa', whose lyrics in Zulu translate to “We at the club, Mr police man don’t disturb us", the track represents the South African scene and Gqom culture in Durban very well. Naked Boyz (officially the first in Durban to explore new territories in broken beat in 2011) 'Story Teller' is characteristic of the Sgubhu style, a blend of Gqom with more conventional house sounds, the new genre taking over Durban and finding its way onto mainstream radio. Scene kingpins Rude Boyz round off the release's line up of Gqom originators with 'Umshunto'.

Pace up, take a deep breath and hit the PLAY button. R2Bees’ latest single will strike you with awe as you listen to a masterpiece, a record that will redefine music and its hold in many circles, and a song that is likely to pass for a CLASSIC.

Known invariably for their flair of Afrobeats and Hip hop, the duo have totally gone into the haystack for this one. A proper “Burger” highlife with the rich sample of “Yaa Amponsah” coupled with sing along lyrics makes this tune unique. Unpredictable Mugeez stuns with his delivery, as Paedae blesses it with his “swagful” touch. As the song plays on, you yearn for more and can’t wait for the next line.

Known for monster hits such as “I Dey Mad”, “Kiss your Hand” and their recent club shatter “Agyeiii” it will come as no surprise if the new single jumps into immediate hit status.

In a related development, the group is ready to set out for the famous Africa Unplugged concert in the UK this August 27th. Reliable information reaching us also indicates that the group will be kick started their North American Tour in September.
