The Vendetta Suite (@vendetta-suite) is one of Belfast's most seasoned producers, often spotted serving up dubbed out sounds on Italian Hell Yeah! Recordings. Having cut his teeth as engineer for the legendary David Holmes, his ability to turn heads in the studio comes as no surprise. 🌙

Here he contributes two hours of pre-summer bliss, with obscure 80's and modern balearic influenced goodness giving us a glimmer of optimism for a return to dancing in the open air. 💛

We are honored to have Manjumasi co-founder, Mark Slee join our podcast series. An hour intricately detailed with deep melodies and exotic programming.

Bio: "Intricate grooves, dreamy textures, playful whimsical bounce. Over the course of an electronic music obsession more than 20 years strong, Mark Slee has evolved a deep musical style that reflects a unique personality, blending intuition and introspection with a methodical approach to production and curation.

Fully committed to digging the troves of modern dance music, Slee aims to uncover releases that stand out. His monthly mix show on Proton Radio showcases his discoveries, with over 100 mixes presented in the past decade. In 2016, Slee joined forces with musical partner Atish to form the label Manjumasi. Debuting with his own Nocturne Belle EP, Manjumasi celebrates quirky dance music that explores new territory without forgetting the dance floor. Beyond Manjumasi, Slee's original productions and remixes have been released on such imprints as Cityfox, Seven Villas, Lost Diaries, Cosmic Society, Magician On Duty, Nugget, Where the Heart Is, Proton Music, and more. In addition to regular appearances on his San Francisco home turf, Slee's style has earned him DJ sets in notable locales, such as Kater Blau and Sisyphos in Berlin, Cityfox in New York, and Robot Heart.

Since 2016 Slee has also been developing immersive, spatial audio-visual production tools for systems of up to 32 channels via Envelop. Notable live performances with Envelop include MUTEK.SF and FORM Arcosanti."

We've admired the way @joe-miller approaches his podcasts for a long time so it made sense to ask him to work his magic with Kiku. He weaves tracks together with such complexity and confidence, creating brief moments of brilliance with unexpected pairings. All 26 tracks from the album feature within the mix, some for a couple of minutes and others for just a few fleeting seconds. His blend of Kiku is a diverse, frantic trip that takes you down many different directions and avenues.

It's been about a year, the time felt right to make another Slinky mix. For those unfamiliar, this is a series of mixes I do occasionally, where tracks are intentionally stretched and slowed down. Transitions and overlaps are purposefully drawn out, the way these tracks slowly wind together becomes a point of focus, as opposed to an invisible, smooth transition. This mix evokes the passage of time, which has needless to say felt quite strange this year. Grains of sand in constant motion, always shifting and blowing, yielding a detailed pattern that just seems to repeat, and repeat, and repeat...

Die DJ hinter der Einhornlichterkette – so unser erstes Aufeinandertreffen – mag den meisten in der letzten Zeit durch ihre geschickten Fusionen verschiedenster Genres in aufgefallen zu sein: Ihre wuchtigen Basslines gepaart mit einer latenten Dosis disco, breaktbeat, acid und perfekt ausgewählten Vocals gelten als ihr Signature Move. Auf diversen Festivals wie der Fusion, Bucht oder dem Château Perché, aber natürlich auch in bekannten Clubs in ganz Deutschland, hat sie sich damit in den Köpfen und Tanzbeinen vieler verewigt. So auch in unseren, doch wir freuen uns umso mehr darüber, dass sie mit ihrem Mix für uns ihr downtempo Comeback feiert!

Denn dieser besticht überzeugend durch seine deep-treibende, gefühlvolle Akustik und weniger durch discoähnlichen Sound – die ein oder andere Note mag natürlich dennoch durchscheinen, keine Sorge 😉 Den letzten Track, ein echtes power-piece mit sagenhaftem Drop, widmet sie ihrer ostend crew; und sollte euch diese geballte Dosis ulé danach noch immer nicht genug sein, freut euch auf ein nagelneues Stück, dass sie sehr bald gemeinsam mit @yolanda-frei an eure Ohren bringen wird. Being asked to provide an online three and a half hour mix of music is an amazing opportunity to really tell a story, to go places you perhaps don’t often get to go as a DJ and explore a merging of genres that you perhaps seldom get to do (especially not in a club environment). As we all know, 2020 has been a psychologically challenging year and I have not been immune. When I started to conceptualise this mix, my mind was quite far removed from any visions of a smoke-filled venue or sun-drenched festival and was, perhaps more particularly, in a reasonably difficult headspace. The music I was drawn to, that I felt reflected where I was at is included in this mix. This is not a 'traditional style' of DJ mix and it’s most certainly more of a ’slow-burn’ style as some would say, sometimes taking its time to absorb the scenery and taking a few detours along the way. I do hope people listen to this with a patient, open mind and can connect to the aural stories that are told here- the sadness, uncertainty, hope, contemplation and ultimately, the human connection and joy. In parts, I’ve attempted to juxtapose different layers, join some interesting dots and create something beautiful for everyone.
Thank you so much to the Flow folks for asking me to contribute to this excellent series and I hope we can all reflect on 2020, take the gratitude and whatever else we have individually learnt from these circumstances and be the best we can be in 2021. x
