MARCO FARAONE - UNCOMPROMISED MOOD EP [drumcode]

Despite his tender age, the Italian producer Marco Faraone recently released his "Floor Attack EP" on Truesoul and is working tirelessly to promote himself on the international music scene with unstoppable releases with some of the most esteemed labels, namely Desolat, Moon Harbour, Sci+Tec, Get Physical Music and Cècille. Marco’s EP sees him continue to rise to the top with an impressive debut on Drumcode that showcases his considerable dynamic production talent, not trapping himself into one style, but ranging continuously between new shades of sound and new experimental aural flavors.

The vinyl will include 3 original tracks characterized by raw techno sounds and solid atmospheres. On the A side ‘Sonic Mood’ produced alongside his friend Piegaja, is a massive peak time tune with an unexpected twist within the break to create a unique experience. The B-side opens with ‘Running Fast Today’, once again a strong powerful record with dark atmospheric synths that create a uncompromising mood. ‘Uncompromised’ rounds off the three track EP and is another chunky, drum driven record. Laced with a cheeky melodic stab, the track is notoriously funky and will work well on the dance floor.

2016 was a standout year for Alan Fitzpatrick, with the Drumcode stalwart racing out of the gates in spectacular fashion with the release of his fabric 87 mix. A substantial amount of high profile shows followed, including appearing at the inaugural Junction 2 festival and closing the car park to a packed-to-the-rafters-crowd at Drumcode Halloween. He returns to Drumcode with ‘Brian’s Proper Dun One’, marking his first appearance on the label since late 2016 when he remixed Moby’s seminal ‘Porcelain’.

The release opens with ‘Brian’s Proper Dun One’, a track which caused a Twitter meltdown on Alan’s profile when he first started playing it at the tail end of 2016. Loaded with sharp and pounding drums, this is an ethereal experience from start to finish and packs a real punch. It’s a no holds barred, certified main room anthem. ‘Wait A Second’ feat. mc r1bbz has been a staple of Adam Beyer’s sets of late and has been getting a lot of air time on Drumcode Radio. This rave inspired track takes a raw, stripped back approach and delivers a real killer blow. Alan sampled the vocals of mc r1bbz from an LTJ Bukem tape pack from the early 90s and the record tips its cap to early jungle raves around the M25. The release closes with ‘Trance, Init?’; A homage to Alan’s days first and foremost as a raver before he became a DJ, with his non-purist attitude when it comes to electronic music shining through. The breakdown is sure to be a hands in the air moment at festivals all over the globe this summer.

CLR Podcast 163 – Adam X

The seventh volume of Drumcode’s annual A-Sides compilation hits with no less than 10 debuts for the label, with Charlotte de Witte, ANNA, B.Traits and Scuba’s SCB project, among the collection of topline artists to release their maiden productions on the imprint. 

Over two decades into its lifespan, Drumcode keeps evolving and excelling, pushing techno forward while remaining wholly respectful of its roots. This reputation for progression was further fueled this summer with its inaugural festival at the NDSM Docklands in Amsterdam, featuring a long list of heavyweights including Nicole Moudaber, Joseph Capriati, Amelie Lens and Ida Engberg, among others. 

As ever, the A-Sides compilation provides a timely opportunity to showcase the full range of its sonic repertoire, with Adam Beyer scrupulously selecting 22 unreleased tracks that have taken prime position in his sets over recent months. 

Outstanding all-round talent ANNA kicks off the compilation with ‘Portable Paradise’, a pulsating cut that sets the tone for the top-shelf club cuts to follow. Also entering the debut field with their first ever Drumcode dalliances are B.Traits and Charlotte de Witte. The esteemed Canadian selector offers up ‘I Feel The Music’, a euphonic track that’s been sought after since spring, and the Belgian ballista unlocks a thick-edged club bomb in ‘Remember.’

Leaders of Drumcode’s new brigade, exciting Brazilian Wehbba and British techno alchemist Boxia set out to impress. Wehbba’s straight-talking ‘Just’ hits with an immediate sense of urgency before neck-snap claps strike with force, and Boxia’s ‘Final Call’ elicits physical engagement with mellifluous vocals and soaring pads. 

Continuously looking to bolster the profiles of emerging talent, Berlin-based producers Weska and Juliet Fox are brought into the fold with equally engaging razor-sharp tracks that are primed to do lasting damage. 

Other notable highlights include an exhilarating workout from Reset Robot - the most released artist on Beyer’s imprint Truesoul – as he lands on Drumcode for the first time. And tastemaker’s favourite Jel Ford makes a welcome return as he ushers in techno rhythms with bustling breaks in ‘Nightshade.’

Elsewhere, support from label mainstays comes in from Bart Skils, who offers a work of consummate skill in ‘West Of The Moon.’ Alan Fitzpatrick, who’s been heavily featured across the A-Side series, joins forces with Scuba as he operates as his uncompromising alias SCB. The result is a propulsive floor-gripper that testifies to their masterful deftness as co-producers. Formidable duos Dense & Pika and Pig&Dan also contribute with powerful compositions.

A testament to the growth of Adam Beyer’s scene-leading label, Drumcode annual A-Sides Vol.8 is the brand’s biggest yet.

The 25-track strong compilation features standout cuts Beyer has received over the last 12 months, but been unable to find room for in Drumcode’s regular release schedule, such is the volume and high standard of music that’s submitted.

The highlight-rich compilation includes Jamie Jones & Darius Syrossian’s buzzy Drumcode debut ‘Eyes of the Night’, Nicole Moudaber’s first DC release in 5 years with the mesmerizing ‘This Is Us’, Will Clarke’s bass-drenched re-work of Adam Beyer & Bart Skils ‘Your Mind’ and Joey Beltram’s first Drumcode release in 11 years with the retro-tinged ‘Can You Feel It’. 

The beloved Alan Fitzpatrick returns to the fold with the searing ‘Heiße Rakete’, alongside label mainstays Layton Giordani, who drops the stirring chord-driven ‘Chrome’ and Wehbba with ‘Mantra’, combining techno classicism with future-focused groove.

There’s a troupe of debutants donning the Drumcode jersey for the first time, including BEC, Shelley Johannson, Anthony Castaldo, Avision, Zimmz, Woo York, SAMA (in a terrific collaboration with Secret Cinema) and Ilija Djokovic, who delivers a shimmering highlight with ‘Aura’, a particular favourite of Beyer’s over the last year. Raxon also debuts on the label after a couple of quality additions to the Truesoul back catalogue.

Exciting young guns Weska and Juliet Fox bring heat to the compilation, while Veerus and Timmo follow up strong DC releases with a repeat dose. Elsewhere faithful contributors Ramon Tapia, Jay Lumen, Luca Agnelli, Marco Bailey and Mark Reeve craft powerful dancefloor weapons.

Releasing only sophisticated and breathtaking techno that captures his personality, Ben's new Drumcode Limited EP is no exception. 'Unity' is a melodic techno stomper that filters in and out to create a distinctive and interesting blend of funky techno rhythms before the detuned stabs launch and open up a new dimension to the track. The B-side, 'Rocket Science' is a chunky hard-hitting techno belter. Using reverberated vocals to create atmosphere, a piano stab that will resound ferociously throughout any venue and a bass line that will lure you into the straight-laced techno killer.

After a decade of releasing on labels like Mental Groove, Dumb Unit and Prologue—outside his co-owned and well-fashioned Zooloft stable, as a producer Giorgio Gigli has long hit his stride. Since emerging on Rome-based Elettronica Romana, Gigli has honed a distinctly dark take on trippy, dystopic-tinged techno—especially so with partner Obtane. Together they have built Zooloft into an insightful and admired go-to for intelligent, progressive music, as rewarding on the club floor as in listening contexts.

In 2011 Gigli made his EDLX debut as Endless, a collaboration between himself and Perc, which saw their solo sound qualities of hypnotic rhythms and abrasive beats navigated to new heights over two track and tool EPs. Now Gigli returns to the label for the first time solo with Inside. True to form both “Further Reflection” and “Rational Understanding” are heady examples of just how powerful Gigli’s minimalistic approach can be. Both clocking in at over seven minutes each, Gigli charms with loops and intoxicating atmospheres, weaving in smoky curlicues from time to time, but essentially letting long and loping rhythms carry you out of time, place, and consciousness. Close your eyes, shut down your thoughts, let there be music and nothing else.

Once again special attention has be turned to the artwork of this release, transforming the vinyl package into another desirable and highly collectable physical object. EDLX’s in-house designer Jan Willem van den Ban spent much time deliberating on a conceptual and creatively challenging sleeve concept, in the end settling on laser cutting manipulations of the record itself.

“I've always liked the idea of designing by deleting. The obvious method to construct a design is to combine and add data or material. To work the other way around offers new challenges and opportunities. Laser cutting is a great technique for this idea and especially with a title like Inside, you want to show what you otherwise can't see. So finally vinyl not only has an A and B side, you now also see a C-side.”

A man who needs little introduction, Southampton born techno legend Alan Fitzpatrick has spent the last decade carving out his musical niche and holding rank in the upper echelons of the underground electronic world. Few artists can claim to have headlined Berghain and also had a hit on daytime BBC Radio 1, but then there aren’t many artists like Alan Fitzpatrick. 

One of the most popular techno DJs in the world, he has rubbed shoulders with the likes of Carl Cox and Adam Beyer for the best part of a decade, performing at the world’s biggest clubs and festivals. Known primarily for his raw hard-edged sound, Alan has developed into one of dance music’s most versatile producers, equally at home putting out techno bangers on Drumcode as he is making disco-infused house anthems, or experimental electronica under his 3STRANGE alias, not to mention his impressive range of collaborations (including CamelPhat, Skream, Sasha, Rebūke and Jamie Jones). 

The We Are The Brave and Apex Faction label don adopts a no nonsense approach to A&R and in 5 short years Alan has welcomed some of Techno’s finest producers to his fold. The Englishman champions the musical output of both established artists and breakthrough alike, accumulating over 50 million Spotify Streams on We Are The Brave records since its inception in 2016. Fast-forward to 2021 and the southern powerhouse shows no sign of slowing down, his passion for music permeating all aspects of his career. The WATB frontman is renowned for curating an evening of exceptional magnitude, having already showcased his roster’s talent at The Warehouse Project, Shine Belfast, SWG3 Glasgow and the infamous Fabric nightclub in London.
